@up_the_irons .. I don't like that it ties its session to the dir you start the program in, so if you decide to split off something or what not you need to export infoz to a md and start a new session in another dir.
<todd>
@up_the_irons but for grok build in general it's .. magical. You can start it and straight up give it a task regarding the current dir and it knows how to use git and code in any language essentially and so you can .. instead of asking grok.com to give you some code to copy to the disk and try and give it feedback, grok-build can be told 'write this, pass these regress, let me know when done' and it'll
<todd>
iterate till done.
<todd>
for the more complex asks, there is 'plan' mode. '/plan here is what I hope to accomplish ' and it'll take whatever you tell it on that cli and make a formal document to review. If you don't like it, you prompt changes to it. until its good. then once you approve the plan, it goes and does it, triple checking that the result matches the plan on the way.
<todd>
arpcli was born this way.
<todd>
few days ago I got tired of 'xv' and 'grab' and 'hide xv windows' and 'click' and 'crop' and 'save' and change the dial to the same position again.
<todd>
So I essentially said 'give me a stupid simple perl program that captures the window with xwd, then displays it, lets me optionally crop it, save it to the upload dir for my web browser, and exit'
<todd>
339 lines of simplicity and a few tweaks later, i can save, and instead of exiting tap 'n' for a new screenshot, or highlight to crop and tap 'b' to blank out that spot as well.

dirty underbelly notes of grok build and grok bot .. each has its own separate token bucket that when used up, no more llm calls for you. except with grok build you can edit the configs (/etc/grok/managed_config.toml, told x.com/i/grok to give me a properly formatted file with the best openrouter free models..) or ~/.grok/* (though I've found grok build likes to remove my edits in ~/.grok .. ) ..
<todd>
and for your amazement .. grok bot .. is a docker vm .. every single grok bot user gets their bits (node + Xvfb + chrome .. all remote viewed via the grok bot ui which is a stripped and repurposed chromium browser itself) as a separate docker vm
<todd>
can you imagine a 16gb ram 128gb ssd vm .. times 400k user signups in one month ?
<todd>
Aug 11 -> beta launch
<todd>
Sep 7 -> 337k users
<todd>
Sep 14 -> 418k users
<todd>
no public figure shared since, but .. it's being advertised hard ..
<todd>
turns out getting picoclaw to socialize with other instances is harder than I initially thought or my 'Daemon Crew' alike except open source would be out by now
<todd>
I told grok-build this:
<todd>
create a README.md based off ~/git/sw/relman/README.md.template
<todd>
in ~/git/sw/ss as well as a ss.1 man page mandoc style as well as Build.PL
<todd>
for installation like a good professional repository.
<todd>
(it moved ss to bin/ss hence the + everywhere)
<todd>
because grok-build is open source I forked the repo and have built it for OpenBSD
<todd>
but I didn't do most of the work
<todd>
I had it eat its own dogfood
<todd>
on a linux vm I gave it a 'grokbuild' account on an OpenBSD system and remotely via ssh it iterated until grok-build could natively work on OpenBSD
<todd>
promise you I don't know how to build rust, but OpenBSD ports do, and from there I know when a thing works ;-)
<todd>
so the only real downside to grok bot and grok build is the token bucket refresh at 1 week. I burn through them in 1-2 days usually.
<todd>
found another tool that I'll privmsg you that has a slowdown but no hard token bucket limit, still learning it, figured out finally a new conversation is essentially a new personality/sandbox/etc .. it can call/sms/email out of the gate ..
<todd>
Fo MINI on this other tool is enough for me, tracks 'turns' and says 1000 turns per day, but even when it told me I hit the ceiling, it still will do useful bits for me. It added a few X Spaces to my calendar and built a sqlite db and scheduled the dump of it to a git repo and then pushed it to me _after_ I had hit the limit for the day, so I'm not quite sure what's limiting me
