nathaniup_the_irons: whats on the back of the t-shirt? Plain white? [10:42]
mercutiofor some reason it doesn't show for me
from nathani's question i gather it's just me? :)
[10:46]
................ (idle for 1h18mn)
karstensrageso you have internal ips for all vps' right? [12:04]
mercutiothere's a vlan per user
and you can use what ip address you like on that vlan
[12:15]
up_the_ironsnathani: yeah plain white [12:17]
mercutioi wonder why it doesn't work for me
wow. it works in firefox but not chrome for me
ok, i figured out how to make it work in chrome: https://www.storenvy.com/stores/942946-arp-networks-swag-shop

if don't specify https explicitally and use http it says "somethign went wrong"
it seems to be using cloudflare though, so it shouldn't really make a difference...
[12:19]
brycechttp:// loaded just fine for me in Chrome *shrug* [12:24]
mercutiohttp loaded fine in firefox. go figure [12:24]

nathanihttps://techcrunch.com/2016/11/16/microsoft-joins-the-linux-foundation/ [14:39]
up_the_ironsoh the irony [14:41]
mhoranWe've been working closely with Microsoft over the past year or so and their commitment to Linux/OSS has been really incredible. [14:43]
mercutiothey're weirdly pro open source now
more so than oracle :)
[14:43]
mike-burnsWell their prior strategy wasn't working anymore. [14:44]
mhoranThey've also worked with us directly to build support for our product on Azure. In fact, they actually invested the engineering resources to port our product to their platform. [14:44]
mercutioi still struggle to understand how buying linkedin made sense
for $26.2 billion...
i wonder if they will move it to windows
[14:44]
mhoranNah. [14:45]
mercutioi think microsoft cares about that less now [14:45]
mhoranWindows is dying. [14:45]
up_the_ironslol [14:45]
mhoranThey're not investing in it.
It's true.
[14:45]
mercutiothe hotmail thing went terribly [14:45]
mhoranThey're investing in Azure, and other software platforms. [14:45]
mercutiobut they had to do it to make windows look like good OS for large systems [14:46]
mike-burnsSomeone on Lobsters had a good point: it's nice to have an alternative to AWS. [14:46]
mercutiooh azure makes sense for them tsure
sure
i can't rememgber who the other big cloud provider was now even
there's azure, aws, and some oen else i think :)
oh google, but i don't think that's big
and ibm have one too
[14:47]
...... (idle for 28mn)
mhoranAzure is actually a terrible alternative.
GCE is way, way better.
We're actually moving our entire infrastructure over to GCP.
Azure is super, super expensive, though it's OK.
GCP is super, super cheap, and super fast (to provision), and they're awesome to work with.
AWS is fine but super expensive.
[15:16]
mercutiooh interesting mhoran. do you have any idea how big google is? [15:22]
mhoranNot as big as AWS, bigger than Azure.
But I don't have numbers.
[15:22]
mercutiooh, they're bigger than azure. itneresting
azure must have better marketing this way.
[15:25]
up_the_ironsazure marketing is all over at our LAX data center [15:26]
mhoranYup, Google is terrible at marketing. [15:26]
up_the_ironsthey did it pretty good actually [15:26]
mercutioit's kind of curious that google are so bad at marketing [15:27]
........... (idle for 50mn)
karstensragewhat containerization does arp use? [16:17]
up_the_ironsKVM/QEMU but i wouldn't call that a container [16:17]
karstensrageok, im sold
gonna try it
whats GCP?
Google Compute?
[16:18]
