It was always a dead giveaway the student (I was TA'ing) had copy/pasted at least some part of their assignment and didn't even try and compile it. | mkb | brycec, nope lack of unicode is my end. whoever set up the computer I'm using thinks LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8 is a good default, and gcc takes that as a license to print curly quotes.
