To be fair I got two credit cards
So that's increasing the chance you guess right
[06:37]
ziyourenxiangmight as well guess your address to send the receipts to, too.
two addresses too?

wackerDoes anyone know if one can upload a pre-made qcow2 image to ARP and have them make a virt out of it? [21:50]
***fink_ has joined #arpnetworks
fink has quit IRC (Read error: Connection reset by peer)
fink_ is now known as fink
[21:51]
jpalmernot sure what a qcow2 image is. but if it's a cd ISO image, you can submit a support ticket with a wget path. they'll mount it to your vps, and you can install from that. [21:51]
azmarcoit's a qemu image [21:52]
wackerIt's a virt running on my laptop. I'd like to have a copy running at ARP. [21:53]
up_the_ironswacker: yes, we can do that. as long as it is not RouterOS that I've seen cause host problems
wacker: but you have to turn it into raw format
and we slap it on an LVM volume
[21:54]
wackerCan do. It's Fedora-14. [21:55]
up_the_ironswacker: should be fine [21:56]
wackerCooking it now.should be ready for the new HW whenever you get it. [21:57]
up_the_ironswacker: roger. new hardware is in, doing a memtest, which has already passed twice, so i can start putting the goodies on the host OS and make it live. planning to do that tonight unless other tasks pull me away [21:58]
wackerCool! [21:58]
jpalmerjpalmer submits about 40 support tickets with other tasks, just 'cuz :P [21:58]
up_the_ironsjpalmer: support has been light lately, thank god. a couple weeks ago it was insane [21:59]
jpalmerup_the_irons: I've seen you blazing through tickets. ;) [21:59]
up_the_ironsjpalmer: it's the least fun part of the job, i try to do them quickly ;) [22:00]
jpalmerDNS requests have been light, I know that. a week or two ago.. they were back to back. [22:00]
finkup_the_irons: what would you do (if anything) if wikileaks bought a vps? [22:00]
up_the_ironsfink: cry. i don't want to get DDoS'd [22:00]
finkheh [22:00]
jpalmermy guess is, wikileaks wouldn't get a vps hosted in the US. too many cease and desist laws. ;)
are they being DDoS'd again? (or, I guess.. still?)
[22:01]
finkjpalmer: their us dns provider dropped then
them
now it's wikileaks.ch, iirc
[22:02]
wackerSo, when a second VPS is created, does it share the same /29 (V4) or /48 (V6)? [22:03]
up_the_ironswacker: yes [22:03]
wackerExtremely cool. [22:04]

GG looks up... ooooh goddy
*goody
G has been thinking of migrating to get native IPv6 :)
up_the_irons: out of interest, whats the hassle of switching between plans etc?
[22:22]
up_the_ironsG: not too much of a hassle, but you have to resize your own filesystem (we can resize the underlying volume), *or* just opt to get the extra space as a 2nd volume which you can mount anywhere [22:40]
Gup_the_irons: ahhh yep, sounds good
up_the_irons: i'll keep an eye out for when orders are live then
[22:40]
up_the_ironsG: yep, will be very soon [22:44]
***ziyourenxiang has joined #arpnetworks [22:44]
finkup_the_irons: that's nice, i should be able to just add that second volume to my zfs setup [22:44]

RootBSD customer? ;)
up_the_irons is massaging his new box
[22:55]
whitefanghaha yeah
I can't wait until I can order a VPS from you guys...I'm feeling robbed since I visited your page last night ^_^
well not robbed really, but I'm impatient when it comes to getting bigger and better things.
haha
up_the_irons: you spying on #rootbsd?
[23:00]
up_the_ironswhitefang: no, i just did a host on ionise.org, then whois on the IP
whitefang: that domain does not sound familiar so i figured you were new here
[23:05]
whitefangthat's what I assumed at first...
but you're also lurking in #rootbsd ^_^
[23:06]
up_the_ironshah, i forgot i was even in there [23:06]
whitefangwow you can whois an IP...its a little embarassing you can use the internet 15+ years and didn't know that. [23:07]
up_the_ironsLOL
I've been using *nix and X for 15 years, and just recently learned that shift-insert was the same as middle click ;)
that's what makes what we do fun, you never know it all
[23:09]
whitefangwoah wow
that's two in like
[23:09]
up_the_ironshahaha
i got a netbook where the mouse buttons did not allow me to click both at the same time (3 button emulation), so I had to learn about shift-insert. a co-worker made fun of me so hard that i didn't know that already
i forgot where i learned that, but glad i stumbled upon it
[23:10]
whitefangso I haven't been able to find any sort of terms of service or something saying what you allow and disallow running on your network.
there's mention of allowing ircd which is kinda cool even though I don't really have a need for that.
[23:13]
phluxhm
I didn't know about shift+insert, either..
[23:17]
GI can't remember where I learned about it, prehaps via KDE though,
yeah actually, I think it was via using old versions of KDE :)
[23:18]
finkwhitefang: bsd is dying anyway…i would recommend ubuntu server [23:21]
up_the_ironswhitefang: http://arpnetworks.com/tos [23:26]
Gup_the_irons: out of interest, just to make double sure, nothing wrong w/ OpenVPN etc right? [23:29]
finkheh, if there is, i'm in trouble [23:31]
up_the_ironsG: heh, no of course not, OpenVPN is awesome [23:32]
Gmy opinion too ;) [23:32]
whitefangfink: how is bsd dying? [23:43]
finkwhitefang: netcraft confirmed it [23:44]
ziyourenxiangthree VPS providers vs thousands of linux/windows ones. [23:44]
whitefangI like my BSD. [23:45]
finkziyourenxiang: quality, not quantity
besides, there are more than 3
[23:45]
whitefangso by that logic, a windows vps would be better than a freebsd one. [23:45]
Gziyourenxiang: I'd suggest immediately filtering out all Virtuozzo/OpenVZ providers (personal opinion) [23:51]
finkwhitefang: http://uncyclopedia.wikia.com/wiki/BSD_is_Dying [23:54]
ziyourenxiangthanks for the tip. [23:54]
whitefangok I'm loling alreadyu
...chief *BSD developer Matt Damon...
[23:55]
finkwhitefang: that parts for real, matt damon used to commit [23:55]
whitefangoh, ok.
Attempting to circumvent user authentication or security of any host, network, or account ("cracking"). This includes, but is not limited to, accessing data not intended for the User, logging into a server or account the User is not expressly authorized to access, or probing the security of other networks (such as running a SATAN scan or similar tool).
I'm assuming that doesn't go for networks I own right?
[23:56]
up_the_ironswhitefang: if you're doing it for penetration testing or education, etc... then it is OK
whitefang: the whole ToS can be summed up in, "Don't be Stupid(tm)"
[23:56]
whitefangOK. so basically "don't go putting your nose where it doesn't belong." [23:57]
up_the_ironsright, or Don't be Stupid(tm) ;) [23:57]
whitefangomg, no chain letters...there goes all communication to my family :( [23:59]
up_the_ironshaha [23:59]
