RandalSchwartzso what's the babysitting daemon of choice?
I have a fragile process that I want always running
so I need a robust daemon above it
I could use init(8) I guess
but wondering if there's a better solution
[07:22]
DaCaRandalSchwartz: runit [07:23]
RandalSchwartzwe're talking freebsd too, in case it matters
runit isn't core
and I'd prefer nothing by DJB infest my system
[07:23]
bob^^+1
i dislike djb's stuff
[07:24]
DaCait's not from djb [07:24]
RandalSchwartzoh - it's a replacement for djb's stuff [07:25]
bob^^i guess you could modify the startup script to only start if not already running, then just shove it in cron
*/1 or sth
[07:25]
DaCait works well, I use it, up_the_irons uses it, ymmv [07:25]
bob^^bit hacky but might work :) [07:25]
RandalSchwartzyeah, there might be a minute delay though
runit looks interesting, but replacing process 1 looks... scary
ahh - there's a "use with traditional init" solution
[07:28]
DaCadon't do that then, it works perfectly without replacing init [07:29]
RandalSchwartzyeah, I see that. :)
oooh .. runit is broken on HEAD

RandalSchwartzok
even though it's broken for HEAD? :)
I wonder what utmpx is
[09:35]
up_the_ironsRandalSchwartz: hmm, i just use whatever version that comes packaged [09:36]
RandalSchwartzyeah, but that's the one that's flagged as broken for HEAD, meaning the next release of fbsd
hopefully someone will fix it before a new release
[09:36]
up_the_ironsi c [09:37]
RandalSchwartzI'll give it an install in my virtualbox image first... see how disruptive it is
Hmm. haven't updated my ports since aug 28 there... this'll take a while

........ (idle for 35mn)
Hmm..
I don't see a ticketing system on the portal.. how to do I create a ticket ?
[18:48]

yeah you'll need to email for rdns delegation

RandalSchwartzdarn it - my IP address is blocked sending to all google apps. :(
and there doesn't appear to be any way to fix it at google's end.
[20:48]
sheathproxy? [20:56]
RandalSchwartzwell - yeah, but I would also want to know why they think I'm *now* a spam source and didn't a few weeks ago.
there's no info in the rejection notice, except about bulk mailers.
I've never been a bulk mailer from this address.

up_the_ironsCr4zi3: there is a link entitled "Help Desk" in the Portal, that's the ticketing system; but support@arpnetworks.com is also the same thing [22:39]
....... (idle for 31mn)
Cr4zi3irons; thnx.. did you get my email that I sent ? [23:10]
up_the_irons [23:23]
up_the_ironsCr4zi3: probably [23:23]
Cr4zi3for IPv6 and RDNS delegation [23:24]
up_the_ironsif you sent it to support, it's in the system
Cr4zi3: btw, if you don't know how to deal with routing a /48 over a link-local address, we will not route the /48 to you; that configuration is for expert users only
[23:24]
Cr4zi3well I have setup HE IPv6 tunnels before..
but I can easily find out what I need to do also..
is that the same setup ?
the uplink is HE, correct ?
[23:25]
up_the_ironsCr4zi3: Our IPv6 has nothing to do with HE. HE is one of our peers, but there are others. What I'm afraid of is I'll set up the /48 routing and you will not know how to deal with it, thereby sending additional support tickets. This is why the /64 is the default and "just works"
Cr4zi3: basically the Portal settings for IPv6 will be updated with the new information, and it is up to you to figure it out
[23:29]
Cr4zi3yea, I'm already working on tryin to figure it out.. ;) [23:30]
up_the_ironsI've never had a customer not have problems with the /48, except for toddf ;)
Cr4zi3: so if you still want the /48 routed, know that you are "on your own"; i will not answer any questions about it. so let me know if you still want to go that route
(no pun intended, lol)
[23:30]
Cr4zi3lemme do some research, and I will let you know.. [23:32]
up_the_ironsCr4zi3: ok [23:36]
Cr4zi3could you tell me what the link-local if would look like by chance ? I think I have the info I need.. but I want to read up some more.. [23:37]
ok, I'm willing to give it a try.. [23:46]
