IPv6FreelyOnly if you need more than one subnet, for whatever reason, I guess. [12:20]
.... (idle for 15mn)
sheathballen, im just wondering so i can set this persons server up right [12:35]
IPv6Freelypretty sure you have to specifically request a /48
At least, that's what the site says.
[12:36]
ballenwhats the IP Block Detail in the portal say for the VM? [12:36]
sheathi dont have access to that
well....i have the default pass for everything i guess i can login
oh that didn't wor
but ifconfig reports prefixlen of 64 so thats what im going off of
[12:44]
Cr4zi3anyone know when irons will be around ? [12:48]
sheathhes usually around later in the night [12:52]
Cr4zi3damn..
if I call the # would he answer ?
[12:52]
sheathidk im not his mother though
no idea, i've always talked to him by email
[12:52]
jdoesheath: make sure you're looking at the right line... [12:54]
sheathinet6 2607:f2f8:a2a0::2 prefixlen 64 [12:54]
jdoedunno, maybe he changed how he does things. I've got a /48 [12:55]
Cr4zi3if I had more time I could help u w/ IPv6.. [12:55]
sheathyeah same here [12:55]
Cr4zi3I have to get back to work tho..
only on lunch..
[12:55]
jdoewell there's nothing really to help with if he hasn't been assigned a /48, he'd have to talk to up_the_irons I guess. [12:56]
IPv6Freelyjdoe: like i said, its a /64 by default, you have to request a /48
that's what it says on the site.
[12:57]
jdoehmm, really?
I guess it's been a while since I signed up.
[12:59]
IPv6Freelyyes.
yeah, it may have been changed, i dont know. I'm new here. I just know thats what it says.
[12:59]
sheathyeah
i got ya
he used to give out 48's
thats no big deal i was just wondering
[13:00]
IPv6Freelyyeah, makes sense to change it though... no sense in giving a single host more than that. If you need more because you're doing something wonky, you just have to ask. [13:01]

up_the_ironsfor the record, all customers are still allocated a /48, but only the first /64 is assigned to the interface. there is no need to assign more. if one wants the /48 *routed* over link-local, we can do that, but unless one knows what this actually means, then there is _no need_ for a /48 on the interface. /48 is meant to be broken up into separate subnets. i can't see why this would be needed
if one only has one vps, unless one is using it for vpn
if one has multiple VMs, then that may be a different story
