mhoran+1 devlispie
I have it set up a wonderful xeyes with no window border in the corner of my screen every time I log in.
[10:46]
mike-burnsThat sounds useful. [10:50]
jdoehow does it detect the window though? [10:51]
mhoranKeeps me from chatting on IRC all day, when I know the boss is watching! [10:51]
jdoeis it hooking something, or is it polling? [10:51]
mhoranI think it's probably a hook. [10:51]
mike-burnsHook. [10:51]
jdoeI would hope. The thing is more "am I going to see the window flicker on one desktop before it gets moved to the right one" [10:51]
mhoranI do see that, but I don't think it's a poll. [10:52]
mike-burnsIt hooks into the WM. [10:52]
mhoranI think there's no way around the flicker. [10:52]
jdoeugh
I know it's minor and trivial but that would annoy me :/
[10:52]
mike-burnsUnderstandable. [10:52]
mhoranYeah.
Hm, you could create the window hidden and then have devilspie unhide it, probably.
[10:52]
mike-burnsThere'd be a flicker as it sets it to hidden. [10:53]
jdoelike the way intel graphics used to garble the k menu briefly a couple X versions back.. or how gnome panels pause a second before the icons appear.. or how my lcd takes just a second or two too long to come out of sleep mode. [10:53]
mhoranIf only you had a RETINA DISPLAY.
Oh wait.
[10:53]
jdoejdoe thinks he needs to relax. [10:53]
mike-burnsEh, you need to relax, but these graphics teams need to put more time into it. Really they need funding. [10:54]
jdoeI'll give xmonad a shot on tuesday when I'm back at work. I do like the idea of tiling wms. [10:54]
mike-burnsI've only heard great things about xmonad. [10:54]
mhoranYeah. My boss runs it on his Mac. [10:55]
jdoemike-burns: I liken it more to a dead pixel. It's tiny and insignificant, but as soon as you notice it, you focus on it. You can't not-see it. [10:55]
mhoranThinks it's the greatest thing ever. [10:55]
jdoemike-burns: flicker would be like that :) [10:55]
mike-burnsPlus the configuration language for xmonad is so simple my girlfriend can do it. [10:55]
jdoehaha.
your girlfriend knows haskell?
I don't know whether to be impressed or afraid.
[10:55]
mhoranHeh.
We're all very, very afraid.
[10:55]
cmeiklejohnXMONAD
mike-burns: stop referring to mhoran as your girlfriend.
[10:58]
mhoranHahahaha. [10:58]
mike-burnsmhoran knows Haskell? [10:59]
cmeiklejohnHahaha. [10:59]
jdoeoh no, it's starting
<mike-burns> mhoran: if they made you in Haskell it would infer that you were just my type
[10:59]
mhoranNah, what I know about programming.
jdoe: Haha.
[11:00]
cmeiklejohnHahahahahahaha. [11:00]
mike-burnsjdoe: Ha. [11:00]

[13:04]
......... (idle for 42mn)
mhoranup_the_irons: Huh. I'm seeing a bunch of bruteforce attacks on my VMs and I've never seen this before.
(Rather, I've seen it before, but not on an arp box.)
This just started in the nightly mail for yesterday.
[13:46]
bob^^i noticed brute force against my vps pretty much as soon as i got it (3-4 months ago) [13:50]
up_the_ironsmhoran: on port 22? [13:52]
mhoranup_the_irons: Yeah. [13:53]
[UFU]change default port? [13:53]

:-/
[13:53]

it's probably up_the_irons :)
[13:54]
