auhello! are there any vps slots available? [01:15]
up_the_ironsau: yes
but i have pre-orders to do
new server is almost ready
the pre-orders go first
[01:26]
auah, a friend of mine is after vps for an ssh tunnel for wow (less latency) which requires a vps in la. just checking if you had any slots at the moment
thanks for letting me know :)
[01:29]
up_the_ironsau: yeah shouldn't be a problem
au: how does the ssh tunnel reduce latency though? i mean he's still playing from his localhost...
[01:30]
auah we're located in Australia and the server is in la, it's much less latency from home -> arp -> wow. in tracert, there's much more hops+latency [01:32]
up_the_ironsau: ah OK [01:34]
auwould you be able to do a tracert for me and pastebin it? [01:34]
up_the_ironsau: sure
au: i also want to see your traceroute to me :)
[01:34]
auokay, one moment [01:34]
up_the_ironsi'm envisioning a whole new market... "Reduce WoW latency, get a VPS!" ;) [01:35]
au12.129.225.103 is the wow server ip
uh sec my wireless modem has tracert blocked
have to hop onto main network, brb
[01:35]

up_the_ironstelstra and reach, interesting
au: you want me to traceroute back to you?
[01:42]
aufor wow server and back, please :) [01:43]
up_the_ironsau: http://pastebin.com/dU18CR6s [01:45]
aucan you please ping mdf001c7613r0003-gig-10-1.lax1.attens.net a few times for me?
sorry for this heh
[01:46]
up_the_ironsau: no problem -- http://pastebin.com/081a82ac [01:49]
auvery good!
thanks very much :)
[01:50]
up_the_ironsau: np!
i'm rockin' the < 3ms pings
[01:51]
auwhen could I expect for a vps to be provisioned? [01:53]
up_the_ironsau: within 24 hours [01:55]
auokay great, I will order after dinner [01:56]
up_the_ironsau: great! [01:57]

aemhello
are vps available or is their a waiting queue at the moment?
[11:45]
***sdf has quit IRC (Quit: leaving) [11:48]
amdprophetaem: i think there's a bit of a waiting queue but i don't think it's that long
tyour best bet is to ask up_the_irons
your *
[11:48]
aemthanks [11:50]
amdprophetnp
aem: if there is a wait, it's worth it
[11:54]
bob^^yeah, definitely worth the wait :) [11:55]
amdprophetmy company is renting two right now and they're both great, we came from vpslink which was a pretty bad experience from the start
faster servers, better pricing, better support, more customization
much more redundant too, we had so many outages with vpslink because their network would go down or power would go out
[11:56]
finkfink loves his zfs freebsd vps [12:09]
bob^^oooh, zfs on vps is a good idea
whenever i've played with zfs on freebsd i've ended up killing hardware ;/
[12:12]
amdpropheti'm using zfs on one of our freebsd vps too
bob^^: weird, although the psu did go in my freebsd zfs fileserver... but that was due to the moisture in the air
[12:13]
bob^^i'm sure it was just co-incidence :) [12:14]
amdprophetyea [12:14]
bob^^first time i applied it on top of a hardware raid card (raidz) and i lost/killed two disks
the controller wouldn't talk to them anymore
[12:14]
finkbob^^: cosmic rays?? [12:15]
bob^^hah :D
you never know :)
[12:15]
amdprophetwait, you can do hardware raid z? [12:17]
bob^^no - was using a dell 2850 with perc controller
had to set it up with each disk as it's own 'array'
and then applied raidz over the top of that
pull out a disk, push it back in, disk gets rejected forevermore :)
[12:18]
amdprophetouch [12:19]
bob^^tbh i think it's more to do with the perc controller
they can be, um, 'sensitive' :)
shame they can't export each drive natively to the OS :(
