toddfso I've been evaluating bsdvm vs arpnetworks.
<-- satisfied arpnetworks customer
<-- disgruntled bsdvm customer
after talking them into getting console via vnc from vmware
I finally was about to re-install the system
when I realized .. they gave me a private IPv4 IP and are NAT'ing my vm
maybe they dedicated an IP for me, but still, ewww.
[14:22]
up_the_ironsick
i always wondered if anyone used bsdvm... ;)
[14:24]
toddfno v6, more mem here, the only thing they offer is unlimited v4 bandwidth, but .. [14:25]
up_the_ironstheir site is kinda funny lookin
like, hard to read; maybe my fonts just suck
[14:25]
toddfup_the_irons: well, someone here I believe said they were evalulating them so I went on a spree of finding vm providers .. I think this month of evaluation clearly tells me you've earned my business and they have grossed me out
plus they insist they can hit the vmware console web thingey from linux, sure I can from openbsd too, but the vga console does not display
[14:25]
up_the_ironsvery glad you're happy here :) [14:27]
toddfdue to a plugin that is well known to any vmware user to require windows to work for the vga console via web thing [14:27]
up_the_ironstoddf: also, I appreciate very much the guidance you've given me regarding conserver, packagin, openbsd, etc... The serial-over-IP feature would not have been nearly this far along if it wasn't for you :)
toddf: lol, you need an IE plugin for vga over web?
[14:28]
toddfI do indeed [14:29]
up_the_ironswell that's retarded [14:30]
toddfwell windows anyway, firefox or ie are supposedly retarted
s/retarted/supported/
braino
lets just say that before evaluating arpnetworks vs bsdvm I was pleased to note arpnetworks is wholly based on open source, vmware of course is not..
[14:30]
up_the_ironsyup
i'm done, DONE, with proprietary solutions
i've learned my lesson long ago
with <gasp> Virtuozzo and <BIG GASP> HSPComplete
i was so happy when i retired those servers...

nuke^hey up_the_irons :p [16:44]
up_the_ironsnuke^: hey [16:45]
nuke^i think something missing on the upv6 thing, i think i have to do the same thing i did to ipv4 to get rdns done [16:47]
***cablehead has quit IRC ("Leaving.") [16:47]
nuke^any ideia how the command would be so i dont mess up again lol [16:47]
***cablehead has joined #arpnetworks [16:48]
up_the_ironsnuke^: what are you trying to do [16:49]
nuke^i pointed the ipv6 adress to a domain, but it doesnt resolve to that domain here on irc, just appears the ipv6 ip [16:54]
up_the_ironsnuke^: what IP? [16:56]
nuke^for example 2607:f2f8:3100:0:0:0:0:7 [16:56]
up_the_ironsit's resolving fine for me [16:58]
Thorgrimrcoding.csharp here [16:59]
nuke^yah same here, but when connectiing to irc
Cannot connect to IRC (Cannot assign requested address (Is your IRC server's host name and vhost valid?)). Retrying...
[16:59]
up_the_ironsnuke^: do you actually have that IP assigned to an interface?
if not, that's your problem
[17:00]
nuke^the ipv6 one? [17:01]
up_the_ironsyeah [17:01]
nuke^hm then prolly is that why only the ::2 works [17:01]
***heavysixer has quit IRC () [17:01]
nuke^it was already assigned [17:01]
up_the_ironsi mean, if you want to connect to it, you have to have it bound to an interface; just like any IP
your VPS comes with 1 IP bound (::2), the rest are your responsibility :)
[17:01]
nuke^its the same way than the ipv4?
sudo ip address add x.x.x.x dev eth0 <- ?
[17:02]
up_the_ironsnuke^: pretty much; you might have to do "ip -6 address ...", the -6 makes it parse an IPv6 address; not sure if that is actually required [17:04]
nuke^ok gonna google it
another thing, i tried the vnc connection
any vnc program workd for that?
or i need to use anything specific
only vnc i ever used its the one to connect to my home pc
[17:04]
up_the_ironsnuke^: i got a report of a problem with 1 particular vnc app, but i forgot which one it was [17:06]
nuke^i tried with uvnc but didnt work keep telling wrong password
i tried the one by default on the mail and my root one but didnt work
[17:07]

baklavaup_the_irons: I've moved by web server over and am ready to fire up my DNS... how about that rDNS delegation? ;) [18:08]
up_the_ironsbaklava: for how many IPs? [18:09]
baklava.162-.166 [18:10]
up_the_ironsbaklava: send an email to support@arpnetworks.com with your IP block and the name servers to which you want the rdns delegated. IPv6 will be delegated as well. [18:16]
baklavaokay no problem. I'm not using IPv6 though [18:17]
