[14:10] acf_: I have both those installed but sound still doesn't work. It's like it is stuck on mute [14:12] mercutio: Linux garry-x1 5.1.3-arch1-1-ARCH #1 SMP PREEMPT Thu May 16 20:59:36 UTC 2019 x86_64 GNU/Linux [14:13] it's not samsung ssd is it? [14:14] there's a 5.1.4 now... [14:14] but that discard bug sounded nasty [14:14] trim, discard, etc [14:15] i'm not sure if 5.1.4 fixes it though [14:15] m0unds: i'm using an nvme too [14:15] https://forum.manjaro.org/t/dmraid-bug-with-trim-in-kernel-5-1-5-2/88360 [14:15] fixed in 5.1.4 apparently [14:18] what, the trim bug with data loss that you mentioned? [14:19] I'm installing the linux-lts package now... [14:20] the only problem with the WQHD display is that I now notice all lower-DPI images and they look like trash lol [14:21] like Cacti graphs [14:34] Oh yeah [14:34] Upgrade your cacti, they changed the graph sizes [14:36] iirc you can also configure it for svg output? [14:36] up_the_irons: hm. does your sound card appear in the pavucontrol window? [14:38] https://unixcube.org/who/acf/tmp/images/screen/volume-control.png [14:38] the mute control there turns on and off the light on the keyboard, and also unmutes the speaker for me [14:43] *** qbit has quit IRC (Quit: WeeChat 2.4) [14:51] svg is stupidly slow on some cellphones [14:51] but it's nifty other than that [14:52] i think more recent cellphones got faster... [14:52] That's what she said!! [14:52] BryceBot: no [14:52] Oh, okay... I'm sorry. 'i think more recent cellphones got faster...' [16:27] wat [16:28] yeah I'm guessing it depends both on the phone and on the particular SVG [16:29] I run a web service that displays svg output from both graphvis and gnuplot, and it seems to work perfectly fine on my android [16:44] my nexus 7 was terrible [16:44] but that's many years old now [16:58] problem is rasterized vector-ey things look awful on highdpi phone displays [16:58] (imo) [16:59] *** ziyourenxiang has joined #arpnetworks [17:19] acf_: pavucontrol simply hangs at "Establishing connection to PulseAudio. Please wait..." [17:21] hmm... maybe I should try installing pulseaudio lol [17:35] OK, I installed it; didn't do shit. I ran "pulseaudio", seemed to work (ran in foreground), then I ran "pavucontrol" and the controls work. I was able to unmute the audio. I got some test sounds working. But if I go to YouTube, it says "Audio Renderer Error".. so I gotta play a bit more [17:42] ah I just had to restart Chrome [17:42] OK, final thing, the volume buttons don't work (but the software sliders in YT and pavucontrol do) [17:43] so connecting the KB to the audio driver or something is the next step... [18:40] *** qbit has joined #arpnetworks [18:41] The Nexus 7 was already rather handicapped to start with... [18:41] (Notably, it's terrible, no-good, very bad flash memory) [18:43] I wrote Lua bindings for my awesomewm to connect the XF86* keys to change volume :/ [18:45] yeah but that was more a cpu issue [18:45] and that flash ... it got slower over time [18:46] i think the cpu was reasonbly ok for the tiem though? [19:07] The CPU was fine, but all performance is going to suffer if processes are backlogged waiting on storage IO [19:12] yea the nexus 7 wasn't particularly slow until your flash went out. mine still boots for some reason [19:13] there was a bad generation (that afaik bootloops for most at this point) and an ok generation [21:15] well i doubt png vs svg performance was about the flash [21:15] i'm not sure how to test quickly/easily atm though [21:15] i got smokeping to use svgs once [21:28] i'm not even sure where mine is .. i hav a note 10.1 2014 now too which is a lot better tablet [21:29] and yet still kind of old :) [21:57] yeah I haven't bothered to get my keyboard volume keys working [21:57] I just use pavucontrol anytime I need to adjust anything [21:58] I remember the ones on older thinkpads working out of the box though. strange... [22:28] i found i'm not much of a tablet user [22:29] i got a fire tablet and downloaded a bunch of tv episodes/movies to it for long layovers and stuff, but i much prefer just using my phone or laptop outside of the media consumption use case [22:30] *** m0unds has quit IRC (Quit: derp) [22:50] *** m0unds has joined #arpnetworks [22:51] *** m0unds has quit IRC (Client Quit) [22:57] *** m0unds has joined #arpnetworks [22:58] bleck [23:11] *** m0unds has quit IRC (Ping timeout: 258 seconds) [23:43] *** m0unds has joined #arpnetworks
