johnny-o: is anyone else on kct01? i was migrated from kvr26 (RIP), and since then it seems disk I/O has been much worse than it was on kvr26. i'm using openbsd 6.3 on this one.
not sure what the differentiator is
bonnie++ with defaults has taken about 15 minutes on consecutive runs
this is on an "all-purpose" level VPS
mercutio: johnny-o: openbsd has some issues that forces synchronous disk i/o :(
the only workaround i've found so far is sending a scsi cache flush
but because openbsd isn't sending cache flushes to the disk it defaults to writing synchronously rather than asychronously
it's worse with openbsd 6.2/6.3 than 6.1 though
i'm not sure of the reason for that
scsi -f /dev/rsd0c -c "35 0 0 0 64 0"
that's the command i used that fixed the speed, quite hackish, but there is potential for data loss
as it won't send subsequent flushes
not even typing "sync" sends a cache flush
