sorressean | I have a freebsd-11.1 serial console iso set up, but I don't see where to load a custom iso.
I just see a huge list. any idea on where that option is? oh I have to send an email dam | [09:43] |
mkb | with openbsd at least you just have to type set tty com0 into the boot prompt in vnc and then you can do the rest on serial console
obviously freebsd's bootloader is very different but I bet it has the same option somewhere | [09:47] |

sorressean | mkb: I'm blind and using a screen reader, so I can't see the boot prompt and vnc is not accessible | [10:06] |
mkb | oh
yeah that's a bit more of a problem than my "I just don't like vnc" | [10:06] |
sorressean | It's not so bad... I've just been tryingt to migrate all morning and I think garry is swamped
ur all week* | [10:06] |
mkb | I haven't seen him in here for a few days, so I think you're right
you know, I probably didn't have to reboot my irc machine for a fix for a 802.11 WPA replay attack | [10:07] |
sorressean | oh snap, irc machines all over are vulnorable! | [10:11] |

how long does it usually take to load an iso up for a vm? | [11:14]
johnny-o | so many variables there | [11:28] |
................................ (idle for 2h37mn)
sorressean | I mean like how long do those support requests take. it's a 500 mb iso and I provided uuid
I tried to start the migration Sunday and it's wednesday with the first being two days away. need to get swapped over before the first. | [14:05] |

up_the_irons | sorressean: i'm adding the ISO now
mkb: OpenBSD is the nicest OS when it comes to serial console | [15:25] |
sorressean | up_the_irons: thanks really appreciate it. sorry, I know you're super busy. just a bit worried :) | [15:26] |
up_the_irons | sorressean: i totally understand, it's not a problem | [15:27] |
sorressean | up_the_irons: I just set primary to cd and boot and it's all set? | [15:27] |
up_the_irons | sorressean: yup | [15:28] |
sorressean | perfect, thanks | [15:28] |
up_the_irons | sorressean: all done, you should see it in the list | [15:28] |
sorressean | up_the_irons: I see it and booted. thanks :) | [15:30] |
up_the_irons | sorressean: great!
sorressean: is it using the serial port as promised? mkb: we don't do domain reg.. no money in it, the big boys clobbered that space | [15:31] |
sorressean | up_the_irons: console: connect(): 3109@sct06.arpnetworks.com: Connection refused | [15:32] |
up_the_irons | sorressean: oh let me see...
sorressean: try now fixed | [15:32] |
sorressean | up_the_irons: whatever you did fixed it. watching boot messages scroll now | [15:34] |
up_the_irons | great, glad to hear | [15:35] |
sorressean | weird, it took me to a boot menu but the only thing I had to use was cd9660:/dev/cd0 ro
up_the_irons: random question, but what do you use to run vms? kvm I assume? | [15:36] |
up_the_irons | sorressean: indeed KVM | [15:36] |
sorressean | figured. :) | [15:36] |
up_the_irons | sorressean: I gotta jump in the car now; do you think you're set from here? | [15:36] |
sorressean | up_the_irons: yep, thanks again! | [15:36] |
up_the_irons | sorressean: if you need anything last minute.. lmk

up_the_irons | very cool :) | [15:37] |
mercutio | serial does make things easier | [15:37] |
sorressean | especially when you can't access vnc at all. :p | [15:41] |
