mercutio: does anyone here still use debian?
dne: sure, in some places (not arp)
JC_Denton: yes
why?
mercutio: ah true. i suspected a lot of people may be silently using it still. i just noticed there was a new debian out. i started with debian many many yeras ago :)
but haven't heard much of it recently.
JC_Denton: what do you use now?
i can't stand ubuntu
ant: personally i don't see any reason to upgrade to debian 9...there's nothing i'm missing in debian 8. The only reason for me to upgrade would be hardware support, but right now that's not relevant for me...
mercutio: i use arch linux and ubuntu
i hate ubuntu too
and arch isn't really the easiest to deal with
i kind of want something in between :)
i don't think anything would satisfy me tbh :)
it does seem upgrading stuff is less common now
i would like to see more of a split between base packages and addon packages like chrome
JC_Denton: ant: security support?
mercutio: gentoo?
mercutio: gentoo has the same complications as arch?
with some more on top :)
ant: JC_Denton: well there's lts for i-don't-even-know-how-many years. and for the next year debian 8 will still have regular security support
JC_Denton: only a few more years now
wheezy is about to EOL for real soon, iirc
mercutio: yeah. i loved gentoo for a long time. compiles were a bear though.
