qbit: up_the_irons: any update on that server (to host the new thunder ordres)?
also,it would be super cool to not have to probe you guys for responses on service i put in a request for on last thursday (literally 0 non-automated have been sent to me since placing the order)
mhoran: Thun der. Da na na na na na na.
qbit: or.. maybe remove the "expect to receive an email from us with an ETA on your server setup within 4 hours." bit from the mail
JC_Denton: i think they simply overestimated Thunder's popularity
***: mkb has quit IRC (Quit: leaving)
up_the_irons: qbit: strange, I thought I *did* reply to your email
qbit: update: the new host was created last night, so I'm going to create new Thunder's on it today
JC_Denton: that's a fair statement, at least as of the last couple weeks. explosion of new orders. it started off slow though after introduction.
i think that's the way most new products work...
JC_Denton: i try to recommend y'all as much as i can ;)
up_the_irons: :)
JC_Denton: new idea for the trello though, stickers.
up_the_irons: done

brycec: "so I'm going to create new Thunder's on it today" faster, up_the_irons , faster! :D
JC_Denton: m0ar thundar
up_the_irons: re: http://support.arpnetworks.com/kb/main/do-you-provide-backup-services : is the underlying storage zfs or something bit rot resistant?
brycec: http://www.rainymood.com/ thunder!
JC_Denton: "Stored in a RAID-1 array, so a single disk failure will not destroy your backups"
And given it's an "old" Linux box, pretty sure it's not ZFS
I can check mine...
(fwiw I backup and store par2's of my backup files)
quota lists the storage device as /dev/md3 and Python's os.uname reports: ('Linux', 'r1.lax', '2.6.32-41-server', '#91-Ubuntu SMP Wed Jun 13 11:58:56 UTC 2012', 'x86_64')
(That's right, up_the_irons , I got around the lack of "uname" in the chroot/jail/thing and used Python :P)

JC_Denton: lol
l337 h4x0r brycec
;)
brycec: I like a good challenge :p
JC_Denton: btw, i thought par2 was dead
brycec: Anything but dead on Usenet when it comes to distributing binaries
And in my case, duplicity has a par2-wrapper to par2 the backup sets
mercutio: i thought usenet was dead
RandalSchwartz: nope. still chugging along.
brycec: Anything but dead when it comes to distributing binaries
RandalSchwartz: well, yes, there's that
BryceBot: That's what she said!!
brycec: Re: par2 with duplicity http://duplicity.nongnu.org/duplicity.1.html#sect21
mercutio: do people have conversations on usenet still?
brycec: Did _people_ ever have _conversations_ on usenet in the first place? :p
mercutio: yes :)
brycec: I don't buy it. It's always been trolls arguing, fact.
mike-burns: Might as well ask whether people still have conversations on Twitter.
mercutio: well arguing can mean a conversation
not having a conversation would be stonewalling.
JC_Denton: lol, googling for something unrelated re: duplicity and you get up_the_irons's blog :D
mercutio: heh

up_the_irons: JC_Denton: like brycec said, it's just a RAID-1
brycec: clever about Python, clever...
JC_Denton: so my blog still gets hits? lol
