more ipv6 trouble this morning packet loss on s3.lax.arpnetworks.com it seems well the routes just changed and it's working better now up_the_irons - how much time are you on duolingo each day?! RandalSchwartz: I haven't done Duolingo in a long time, but started again a few weeks ago. I probably spend 10 - 15 minutes a day on it. I do Duolingo for Spanish everyday its fun I did Duo for German and Russian for awhile, but I can never stick with it. I know ant has like a 1000 day streak I got up there once, like 300 days or so, but lost it damn impressive My streaks topped out around a couple weeks. I had a 600 day or better streak, but then ended up off the net for a few weeks. I'm back to 134 now. Heck... I was even ensuring doing a lesson using shipboard wifi just to maintain my streak. :) Has anyone played with Duo's new "clubs"feature? not me yet (me either) nor I maybe there should be an arp-club? I actually had to use the streak freeze 2 or 3 times (after reaching 1000 days)...so those 1196 days are actually a lie streak freeze is still legal! I have 4459 lingots now already bought everything I can buy :) and that's without any streak bets I have 7926 damn holy shit I'm down for an ARP club; who's with me? well, I get 100+ lingots every 10 days.. up_the_irons is my username. I follow RandalSchwartz and ant, not sure if any of you other guys are there. Add me and i'll follow back. ant: damn! i have almost 800 added you up_the_irons ditto my username is staticsafe followed back up_the_irons: I guess you could create a club and post the name and code in here (haven't tried that, but it looks like it should work like that) I had the German owl, but they took it away, LOL. They added a lot more German lessons and decided I wasn't worthy enough until I finish the new ones, I suppose. hahahaha But I'm able to "Test out" of almost everything now; I can even understand the computer German voice in a loud Starbucks where the heck is the create a club screen... in the android app it's right under the "clubs menu" (that's probably not the right term) Oh right, it's app-only. Not on the website. That's why I hadn't played with the feature yet ooooh gotta grab my phone invite code: HMEF5K looks like clubs are language specific can't join that unless im learning german oh really? yeah ack too bad nein fur mi, den :( someone make a spanish club, please. fwiw you can enroll in multiple languages Dann müssen wir eben alle Deutsch lernen... Yes - I'm doing spanish and portuguese das klingt ausgezeichnet oddly - I have the same length streak in both. :) i can do the spanish one Even though I'm "actively" (because I'm lazy) learning Russian, I switched to my German self and joined :) i'm also lazily learning Russian 13 slots remaining... spanish: 853EUA Heh.. I tried to cut-n-paste that russian: SFBNW7 \o/ I'm in! estoy entre or something like that :) I *do* like the new chatbots except I occasionally go off script, and it breaks it. :) portuguese: 3ETH5C I dig the concept, haven't played with them yet. never tried the chat bot looks like you can only be a member of one club per language though the UI is locking me out of starting another so if I want to invite others for spanish, I'll have to leave this one. :( it seems they need to work on this Club feature... too restrictive Luckily, still have "friends" on the web version oh cool it's free maybe i should try it :) I have streak set to "1 point". It's trivial to get at least 1 point on the web... just pick "timed practice" and get *anything* right. then let it time out heh on the phone, can't do that. have to complete at least one thing. haha it starts kind of hard hah i'm translation level 4 in German, so if I just verify _anything_ in a document, it's 5 points i'm doing level one french. but i don't know french :) I'm thinking chinese might be a good one if we're gonna be at war with them although it'll probably just be an economic war ok how do i join this group? which langauge? oh gooddamnit why is it per language i started with french agreed. ikr i suppose no-one else is doing french not i "darling - you spoke french" I might try french once I get my spanish a bit more practical french seems easier than german nearly anything is easier than german :) spanish could be fun wut, german isn't that hard i'm finding Russian hard spanish has simple pronunciation going for it but french is easier than german to learn from my understanding, and from how much i can recognise without knowing once you learn the letters, you can read any word. spelling bees in spanish would be trivial. haha i got a smart watch today. it's already telling me that i'm too inactive German words are pronounced like they are spelled. Russian is like wtf is going on I'm doing French... but only because it seemed easy since I took it (to fluency) back in high school. But I didn't bother starting a French club. French was fairly easy, and once you know the rules of pronounciation, it's all just pronounced liked it's spelled, so simple. Russian has been fun Not too hard, but enough differences to make it really interesting. (like they don't use articles, no "the" etc) having had a field day in German with declension (changing of articles and adjective endings based on case and gender), I'm so happy Russian has no articles is doing the basics of spanish, french, and german crazy? i'm not sure if i'd do better just pursuing one further first, rather than trying all 3 a little :) I say try all three Try them all! heh just try whatever is comfortable Well that's obnoxious. My ARP Networks payment this month caused an overdraft fee because my monthly transfer didn't finish due to the holiday Monday. Ugh. I sure wish they would have just denied that payment instead... you could try ringing your bank up i've rung bank up about bank fees before and they've reversed them yeah. I will. as long as you're reasonable they probably will I got confused when I first started with both ES and PT at the same time because they're the same... except when they are different Pt? I think I know what happened this time... I've been moving things over to Privacy.com which uses an ACH instead of using my MasterCard directly with ARP. So I think they were a little more graceful with the MasterCard vs the ACH. :( portuegues except I can't spell that very well :) i thought doing french first made spanish seem easier. ahh right so I decided to set PT aside for a bit until I could get clear on ES now that I'm at 49% on ES, I ripped through some PT beginning lessons and got up to 15% in the few weeks I had before my Brasil trip so doing multiple at once seems common and deadly :) i hear about kids learing a couple of extra languages but we're meant to get less flexible as we get older... you can learn languages fast if you focus on communication as a primary goal (like actually talk to people), rather than lessons, grammar, spelling, etc... and that's as an adult ahh my German sky-rocketed once I actually got penpals from mylanguageexchange.com at least it's not plural my languagesexchange. :) haha i screw up ein/eine and la/le all of the time I'm up to the part in spanish where the suffix letter is deceiving for an item so I'm getting masc/fem mixed up a lot Hm. What's an example of that, RandalSchwartz ? interesting note... almost all the "feelings" words in spanish are feminine, even though they end in a consonant Genders for words annoys the crap out of me because it's a lot of rote memorization rather than anything more "logical" (particularly with German, in my limited experience) La the the one (to) it Explain La personalidad La tensión i have 40 xp I would have though both of those to be El, not La based on rules I worked out earlier. brycec: have a chat partner helps since you'll learn it just through repetition, instead of rote memorization "the personality" "the tension" *having Huh. I would have gone with "la" for those. (and I would have been right) Then again, I learned Spanish by living in Arizona (and 2 years education in middle-school) No doubt, up_the_irons Yeah - if you've heard it, it's in your head. Specifically a partner that corrects you, I imagine. well even if they don't, you'll pick up on how _they_ talk I spend one weekend a month in Tijuana... I struggle to talk, but I find myself reading more and more things, like the signs and the newspapers, with relative ease. like, if you ever only hear it the correct way, you never have the bad version in your head memorization of these things eventually becomes what "feels" right. Same as I speak English, etc. Good points, up also - the netflix in mx has american programs, but dubbed to spanish with english subtitles, or vice versa. yeah, it's great when you get to that point, b/c you can tell if something is wrong by just "feeling" that it's wrong. in fact, you can't turn off the spanish subtitles(!) although you can select english or spanish audio I got two new friends, and more lingots! kudos i'm stil not sure hwo to join clubs you have the app? and not the web? i am using web then no oh i'm installing on phone atm you have friends on the web, clubs on the app it's weird. oh that is weird goddamnit clubs are new though probably gonna migrate back to web soon i have chrome-generated password heh can't you use both? yes - you can, and I do but I'm saying clubs will migrate back to the web probably] is phone easier to be less distracted? they have different advantages the web always lets me hover but has different challenges the app has the "word match" things and the "make a sentence from these words" things i like both, web and app; both good those are not on the web yeah and the web has "get at least a point for trying to practice" where the app makes you get 10 points or nothing for a practice. but the app also has the chatbot conversations, web doesn't and now the app has clubs, but the web has friends the app can also cache one or two *lessons* ahead for use at 30K feet but none of the other features, like practice or chat, or I presume clubs. oh really? how do you get it to cache those lessons? airplanes should just have wifi :) the practice seemed better than the lesson to me it sorta just knows there's no explicit access I think the next few lessons are always cached google maps now does that too
