KILLALLHUMANS01: Damommit my VPS blew up again. :(
*Dammit
And VNC console is saying it's that pesky RAM issue again. (No idea why yet, my monitoring didn't go off prior to the lockup about any RAM or swap usage increases...)

(It would be nice if the novnc console wouldn't disconnect as I'm taking a screenshot too)

nathani: how do jumbo frames work at IXPs? Since the general Internet is 1500 mtu
mercutio: usually only through private peering agreements
it'd usually be specific to application
some people just run jumbo frames on peering links regardless though
peoplehave been running baby jumbo frames internally for ages
and some people run jumbo frames interally
but as you may be aware, mtu discovery isn't reliable
but say you wanting to get one of fancy mpls vpn connections where you get a tunnel just for your traffic that goes from one country to another through a specific carrier with known performance, often they'll be able to provide jumbo frames

nathani: ahh so end to end jumbo frames
I thought the 1500mtu frames would somehow be grouped together and transitted as a single jumbo frame between the peers
whats a baby jumbo frame?
@google baby jumbo frame

mercutio: yeah
so gre normally has 20 or 28 bytes overhead..
so 1500 bytes with 1600 total is easy
you could go two deep easily even
BryceBot: That's what she said!!
mercutio: l2tp has a bit more overhead
