up_the_irons: reddit says your server runs loud. Is this true? https://www.reddit.com/r/sysadmin/comments/4cbjdp/very_loud_hp_server_se326m1_g6/ it doesn't seem any louder than usual but the data center itself is loud so i can't generally tell was that photo taken with your phone? yes rackmount servers are generally annoyingly noisy nathani Which is why you lock them away in other people's buildings and do everything possible via idrac/ipmi etc yeah and wear ear plugs when going to dc I prefer noise cancelling headphones, but yes do noise canceling head phones actually protect your ears? Datacentre noise isn't loud enough to cause hearing damage ahh ok there's an odd zen factor to camping w/ a crash cart for hours on end, milk tea in hand, nothing but fan noise filling the air~ Well, the DCs I've been in aren't I've never used ear plugs :o it's enough to give me a headache :) that's what the milk tea is for ^^ but i suppose that doesn't mean it's damaging so much as agitating Yes, just bloody annoying And remarkably fatiguing yeah it's amazing how much difference it makes at the end when you have ear plugs even if you don't really notice at the time
