up_the_irons: brycec: prepping now
brycec: Excellent. Just shut it down (if you couldn't guess by the ping timeouts)
up_the_irons: yeah i found it off already
copying image now
-: brycec watches an obscure Japanese dramedy on Netflix to pass the time
up_the_irons: half-way copied
brycec: Excellent.
up_the_irons: 85%
brycec: You've got some speedy storage
35% in the span of a couple minutes, 35% of 40GB or so means you're about saturating GbE.
up_the_irons: brycec: it's booting
i'm also using zstd
brycec: Took the passphrase so that's a good start
up_the_irons: i see it at the login prompt
brycec: Neat
(re: zstd)
So far so good, continuing to double-check things
***: BryceBot has joined #arpnetworks
mercutio: zstd really helps blank space
brycec: As does gzip :p
***: brycec is now known as KILLALLHUMANS01
mercutio: yeah gzip is way slower though
can't really do gzip at gigabit speeds
***: brycec has joined #arpnetworks
brycec: Nothing seems to be on fire, which is good.
Though curiously enough, nginx failed to start because the network interfaces weren't up yet. This might be a bit too fast :P
up_the_irons: lol
brycec: i think i might need to make a change to your config; regarding the backup VLAN interface
i bet you can't ping it
-: brycec grumbles
brycec: (You would be correct)
up_the_irons: brycec: if you want to go to bed, we can finish the backup VLAN part tomorrow
brycec: up_the_irons: Is it just another shutdown + boot?
up_the_irons: yeah
brycec: I can stay up another 10 minutes, if that's all it takes.
K, one sec...
Shutting down...
up_the_irons: k

brycec: Thanks :)

up_the_irons: sure :)
***: BryceBot has quit IRC (Ping timeout: 256 seconds)
KILLALLHUMANS01: (Once again, nginx started before all the network interfaces were up. weird.)
up_the_irons: lmk if you can ping: fe80::21b:21ff:fe93:3e09
***: BryceBot has joined #arpnetworks
up_the_irons: (note, it is very slightly different from the other address)
KILLALLHUMANS01: works
-: KILLALLHUMANS01 panics because it's 1 different /s
up_the_irons: awesome
KILLALLHUMANS01: I agree.
Thanks for your time tonight :)
up_the_irons: Sure
Thanks for staying up late :)

nathani: what backup solution do folks recommend for use at home? FreeNAS Server? Network Attached Storage? Dedicated File Servers?
mike-burns: I just use tarsnap.
nathani: I use that on linux servers too, but what about other content on Windows/Mac Pictures, Videos, Movies and other bulk content? tarsnap would get pretty expensive real fast
