up_the_irons: I'm literally sitting on the beach, working on my laptop, answering support tickets
Surprised signal is good
#nocomplaints
mercutio: haha
that actually sounds like kind of a sensible idea
better than cafe
up_the_irons: yeah... Starbucks is just as close, so I decided why not try the other direction this time
mercutio: what's your screen like in bright sunlight?
@weather los angeles

up_the_irons: If I was in the direct sun it wouldn't be good
I'm under the pier
mjp_: outdoors? our brave adventurer, whats outdoors like?
up_the_irons: so in the shade
mercutio: damn it's hot
up_the_irons: mjp_: didn't know they still made outdoors
lol
apparently they do!
mercutio: yeah too hot for the sun :)
up_the_irons: actually this is more acurate:
accurate
@weather ventura, ca

up_the_irons: wth
mercutio: it's the same temp haha
up_the_irons: it's not 99°F here, no way
more like 85
mercutio: i think my temp is reasonably accurate
up_the_irons: it's the hottest day we've had since we moved (2 months ago)
mercutio: 24c inside
76 is down in my mind as a good temp
i'm not sure how hot 85f is :)
29c
up_the_irons: 76 is indeed good
mercutio: ah 76f is basically how warm it is inside here
those temperature gun things are interesting
you point them at things and it tells you how hot they are. if you point it at concrete in direct sunlight it'll be way warmer.
about 37c/99f when i tried it before when there was sun :)
up_the_irons: yeah
mjp_: i once went outdoors, didnt like it much

up_the_irons: mercutio: live migrate is running successfully (so far) between kvr04 and kct02 using pre-defined XML. Going straight from LVM to RBD!
mercutio: up_the_irons: wonderful :)
up_the_irons: It was tricky creating the XML though. I think it would be easier to use old XMLs and adapt for kct's than the other way around.
mercutio: maybe there are some willing guinea pigs in here
BryceBot: That's what she said!!
up_the_irons: libvirt is really strict on the devices
But i've kept detailed notes, so you'll be able to see
mercutio: i think have to only change to the ceph disks at first.
then can do any other changes with a reboot.
was this done at the beach? :)
up_the_irons: I am indeed still at the beach ;)
brycec: Decent battery life :)
up_the_irons: actually it's gotten a lot worse these days
mercutio: old batteries tend to get worse
up_the_irons: used to last a good 8 hours, now not even 4, so it's getting old
mercutio: and new software gets worse too :)
up_the_irons: so it just finished and seems to have been a raging success:
--- 208.79.89.142 ping statistics ---
1078 packets transmitted, 1069 received, 0% packet loss, time 1078332ms
rtt min/avg/max/mdev = 27.650/50.522/256.471/20.542 ms
mercutio: damn 9 seconds downtime
up_the_irons: the few packets lost were right after migration and right before i did 'clear arp' on the switch
brycec: Chrome is a nightmare battery-wise, except on my Chromebook which still gets 6+ hours' battery (it was marketed as 6:30 battery life, 6 years ago)
(or was it 5?)
mercutio: brycec: did you see android is coming to chromeos?
except not on my chromebrook it seems. (acer c720)
brycec: Yeah I'm aware
mercutio: i found chromeos terrible
but linux worked ok :)
the idea is nice
but can't even use skype on it
brycec: heh I like it quite alright. The machine is fairly sluggish by modern standards, but if I keep it under 10 tabs it's fine.
Actually Skype has an html5 client now :P
I've Skype'd from my Chromebook
mercutio: with video?
brycec: Yes
mercutio: cool
i should try that
i got a new laptop and stopped caring about chromebook :)
brycec: Only thing my Chromebook doesn't do that I wish it could is RDP (there's some third-party HTML5 service for it, but my hosts are internal, so... ha)
mercutio: can you run X apps on it?
there's linux chromeos or something isn't there?
linux on.
nathani: whats this live migration I am reading about?

nathani: cool
***: Nahual1 has quit IRC (Quit: Leaving.)
nathani: will you guys use it before doing maintenance
or offer it as a feature of some sort
I thought the disk had to be on shared /networked medium for that to work
mercutio: it doesn't
it makes it much quicker if it is though
