Nahual has quit IRC (Ping timeout: 276 seconds) mnathani: cant seem to get my freebsd secondary nic to assign a link local address
https://gist.github.com/mnathani/0c1e6bfc9bf86a60047a59e3103b15bb
^ a portion of my rc.conf brycec: mnathani: because you're overriding ipv6_network_interface as set on line 3 with the value on line 4. The end value is simply vtnet0 up_the_irons: mnathani: make sure the interface is "up" (might sound obvious, but it's bit me before) brycec: I think it's a space-separated list, ipv6_network_interface="vtnet1 vtnet0" up_the_irons: and that ;) brycec: (I could be off, FreeBSD's rc.conf settings change drastically from one release to the next, infuriating.)
ipv6_network_interfaces mercutio: is freebsd 11 out yet? brycec: (str) This is the IPv6 equivalent of network_interfaces.
Normally manual configuration of this variable is not needed.
(From https://www.freebsd.org/cgi/man.cgi?query=rc.conf&sektion=) mercutio: hmm seems freebsd 11 is running late
probably a good thing mkb: I don't seem to have any modern hardware
while looking for an SD card I found a 5 1/4 inch floppy mercutio: haha mkb: then I found an SD card, but it's only 128 MB mercutio: i only hav microsd cards mkb: which admittedly is much larger than the 500 "Kb" on the floppy
I wonder if that's bits or bytes mercutio: i really am not sure if it's be bits or bytes
pc floppies went 360k/1.2mb
so i assume it's not pc
i'd guess kbit
either that or it's unformated capacity staticsafe: the oldest storage format I recall using is 3.5-inch floppy disks mercutio: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Sony-Md2D-MD-2D-5-25-130mm-500kb-10-Floppy-Discs-Disks-Brand-New-Sealed-/122015419315
ok, i think it's unformated capacity :)
amiga had 880k on 3.5" and pc had 720k brycec: Also: https://www.amazon.com/Sony-MD-2DA-Double-Sided-Density-10-Pack/dp/B00DSD4F8E mercutio: seems you found the same thing i did brycec :) mkb: it's definitely PC mercutio: the formating for higher capacity on pc was terrible
gave errors too easy and you couldn't get enough gains mkb: it contains, if it still does, the billing software for a small pest control company staticsafe: 1.44MB variant, which according to wikipedia started shipping in 1986 mercutio: what i wish was more common back then is raid5 type systems for floppies
as you'd end up with one floppy that didn't work rihgt
sometimes trying again like 30x could work though mkb: Insert floppy 25/26. Error: Disk error. Insert floppy 25/26. mercutio: which was only worth trying if it was going to take a long time to get another floppy
oh the itnernet makes things so much easier up_the_irons: mkb: lol been there, too many times
;) mercutio: heh i had a disk failure with installing os/2 from floppies
and it actually just had one bad dll or something
and i downloaded the dll on the internet through irc ;) mkb: dcc mercutio: os/2 was a bitch to get on the internet
yeh dcc mkb: I remember years ago wishing I knew enough to get dcc to work
(I was behind NAT and had no idea what NAT was) mercutio: dcc was easy on dialup mkb: now I could do it but have no need mercutio: yeah i don't use dcc anymore mkb: I do keep identd running just for old times sake BryceBot: That's what she said!! mercutio: people used to share mp3s etc that way
before napster staticsafe: Limewire was how I first got music mercutio: you used to be able to do web search for "last modified" and mp3 etc up_the_irons: I loved OS/2 mercutio: damn you still can up_the_irons: well, Warp... 4.0 was kinda shitty mercutio: i liked os/2 2.1 best
it went down hill from there up_the_irons: hah mercutio: but os/2 warp 3 connect made it easy to get on internet
seriously os/2 2.1 was best mnathani: https://gist.github.com/mnathani/6cd9a215bb18c65f62f71bdc15d1ce60 mercutio: and there were heaps of fixpacks even mnathani: interface should be up, shows in ifconfig mercutio: i used tshell though
which was text mode replacement task switched
http://www.edm2.com/index.php/The_Shell_Game_-_Alternative_Shells_for_OS/2#TShell:_A_Text_Shell_For_OS.2F2
was so fast mnathani: up_the_irons: guess you were right, as soon as I issued: "ifconfig vtnet1 up" the link local appeared up_the_irons: :)
mnathani: can you ping the backup box? mnathani: havent tried as yet
16 bytes from fe80::21b:21ff:fe93:3e09%vtnet1, icmp_seq=3 hlim=64 time=0.409 ms
ping works mercutio: mnathani: are you liking zfs? mkb: up_the_irons, do frankfurt vpses exist yet? mnathani: right now its just another filesystem to me. Havent played with any features yet mercutio: ahh mnathani: mkb: there is an option to chose location on the order form, so I assume they do exit
s/exit/exist BryceBot: <mnathani> mkb: there is an option to chose location on the order form, so I assume they do exist mkb: ah!
if I end up doing it I'll email support@ so I didn't think of looking at the order form up_the_irons: mkb: yes we've been selling VMs in fra
mnathani: nice :) mkb: up_the_irons, ok thanks up_the_irons: sure brycec: BryceBot: no BryceBot: Oh, okay... I'm sorry. 'I do keep identd running just for old times sake' mkb: oh yeah I forgot about teaching BryceBot ***: medum has quit IRC (Ping timeout: 260 seconds)
