im considering moving to freebsd from ubuntu
im currently at linode and there are a quite a few mandatory migrations that i cant control
so they take down my linodes and do something, then bring them back up
does arpnetworks do similar things? hazardous: what is a mandatory migration?

It's a good choice if you want to use bsd. hazardous: i run ubuntu xenial lts on it, but everyone else here appears to be a bsd fan last i saw karstensrage: linode provides DNS too, does arp provide that? hazardous: you mean forward dns? karstensrage: they host DNS if youre a customer so i can provide DNS records for my sites and they serve them sjackso: karstensrage: You can configure reverse DNS for your IPs, but no, there's not a DNS service like Linode's. karstensrage: hmmm sjackso: your domain registrar may have dns service though hazardous: incidentally i've never hosted dns at the same hosting provider anywhere
i usually have domain registered at one company, dns at one company, and hosting at another

mnathani: how are you finding ZFS to be on your new VM? mercutio and I were debating on how well it would run with "low" RAM. sjackso: I'd be curious to know how ZFS in a VM would work too up_the_irons: I've done it, and it works fine, but you have to have enough RAM
in my experience 4GB was good, but lately i've seen setups with smaller amounts mercutio: i tried linux with 768mb zfs before
