brycec: It's just an HTTP header in the request. And technically it's duplicity and boto (the python library) 16:45 <@up_the_irons> duplicity knows the difference between triple and double replicated S3 space? damn...
up_the_irons: brycec: ah ok
dne: brycec: S3 RRS pricing starts at $0.024/GB/month. $0.0.125 is for "infrequent access storage"
reduced durability vs reduced availability
s/0.0.125/0.0125/
BryceBot: <dne> brycec: S3 RRS pricing starts at $0.024/GB/month. $0.0125 is for "infrequent access storage"
brycec: Yeah I knew that, was just running out the door and quoted the wrong figure.
I also have an automatic migration rule setup in S3 to move old backup chains to Glacier (which is $.007/GB)
dne: ok :)
JC_Denton: it's really sad when Comcast does native dual stack IPv4/IPv6 and their support reps don't know what IPv6 is
mercutio: JC_Denton: do they know what IPv4 is?
JC_Denton: heh, probably not
they referred to IPv4 as an "internet server"
mercutio: haha
JC_Denton: i was super lucky, i had a /60 that was working *fine* for damn near a year
now it drops with no renew every few days
drives me nuts
mercutio: weird
does your IP address block keep changing?
there was an ISP here that used to give out dynamic IPv6
i'm like what.
JC_Denton: sometimes
BryceBot: That's what she said!!
mercutio: for consumer internet i think giving out a /56 per user is a good idea
JC_Denton: usually it just cold drops the lease and i notice because i have no v6 connectivity
i've got my hint set at /60, works for me
mercutio: because you're meant to have a /64 for ethernet, a /64 for wifi, etc
JC_Denton: i use a /64 for my main LAN, a /64 for guest network, and a /64 for VPN
mercutio: but people are often thinking about huge bridged networks still atm
a /60 is probably good enough for most users :)
but even with a /32 you have a lot of space for /56s
JC_Denton: i don't really see a need to separate wifi and ethernet
mercutio: i do
i mean i don't see need but i do :)
JC_Denton: why?
mercutio: because ethernet is static, wifi is dynamic
JC_Denton: how do you work with devices that sync with broadcasts?
mercutio: i also transparently proxy wifi but not ethernet
i don't :)
JC_Denton: i detect a boring LAN :P
mercutio: yeah it is boring
my printer has cloud print
but works on ethernet too
it used to work on phone, dunno if it still does :)
but i don't find myself wnating to print from phone, and i can always use cloud print
JC_Denton: if it's google cloud print capable, it should
mercutio: it's google cloud print supporting
JC_Denton: i don't print much, but i did print my chat from comcast for laughs
mercutio: but it also supports hp network printer thing or whatever
even though it's not hp :)
i love my printer
JC_Denton: JetDirect?
mercutio: it was like $5
and is wifi
and pages come out nicely
ahh yeh probably jetdirect
i haven't actually set it up in linux yet :)
i print from windows
it's mostly scanning that was a little more complicated
i wonder if linux can do network scanning?
WiFi for printers is a great idea as you can put them out of the way
JC_Denton: the HP's have a decent EWS for web scanning
mercutio: This isn't HP
it's cannon
apparently you may be able to use scangear in linux
ok that was weird. "it just works" with sane
brycec: Two words: Broadcast domains. 15:22:21 JC_Denton | i don't really see a need to separate wifi and ethernet
Why waste WiFi bandwidth with all that broadcast traffic desktops spew advertising and seeking
Admittedly at home my wifi and LAN are bridged, but that's mostly so devices like Chromecast work as expected.
JC_Denton: ^^
that's why mine is bridged ;)
i'm saying for most LANs it makes sense to bridge them
brycec: In my professional deployments, wifi and LAN are always separated.
JC_Denton: "home LANs"
brycec: heh
Yours is a sad state of affairs mercutio when "it just works" is weird
JC_Denton: to macvim or not to macvim
mercutio: It has been years since I did anything with scanning and Linux
It used to be pretty cumbersome.
brycec: My multifunction printer/fax/scanner gets used for only one of those functions, and even then about only 3 times a year
mercutio: JC still I think it is important to have the ability.
Bryce I didn't have scanning for ages but I use it a few times a year now
brycec: I've been pretty happy with {x,}sane
mercutio: There are other ways often but damn convenient
brycec: Its probing is pretty good at making things "just work"
mercutio: Yeah I was surprised
speaking of things that just work. windows 10 update just didn't work.
i have no idea why
mnathani: how did you get on with windows 10/ubuntu?
nathani: No luck as yet
mercutio: i just got 14316 installed
woot installed zsh :)
although tab completion isn't working in it
JC_Denton: now install oh-my-zsh
nathani: How do you check what build is installed
mercutio: erk i resized my window and now it's blank
it says in bottom right
on the insider builds
vim starts instantly
much nicer than cygwin :)
yeh zsh bugs out too much
so vim works, ssh works, ..
there's a bit of weird console stuff
iperf works :)
gah, tmux doesn't work
