is kvr24.arpnetworks.com not responding to ssh for anyone else?
[07:28]
i know it had maint, but it should be over, no?
up_the_irons: ^ :D ?
[07:34]
....... (idle for 30mn)
antqbit: not responding for me either [08:05]
qbitthanks for confirming at
ant :P
[08:05]
anthm..should the kvr's listen to ssh on 22?
qbit: why do you want to connect to kvr24 via ssh?
[08:09]
qbitoh right, i need to tunnel via the console
lol
[08:13]
antant just logged into the portal for the first time in years to check where to connect via ssh for console/vnc
"Debian GNU/Linux 5.0" lol
well at least i finally managed to update my cc info before the yearly billing
[08:14]
qbitwoo
having weird routing issues
[08:22]
........ (idle for 36mn)
bryceclol Debian 5 [08:58]
ant(the vps is actually on 7, but the portal doesn't know that) [08:59]
brycecohh I thought you were reading that off the VPS' serial console, since y'all were talking about the console
I supposedly have an OpenBSD 4.7 box according to the portal
[09:00]
.... (idle for 15mn)
qbitup_the_irons: seems there is a weird routing issue on my vps.. nothing works until there is outbound network from the vps [09:15]
brycecSo here's a weird issue (that qbit is having) No traffic can reach his VPS (on kvr24) until the VPS originates a connection to the Internet.
lol qbit
[09:15]
qbit:D [09:15]
brycecAs though kvr24's networking has to learn of the VPS' MAC, but it "resets" every time the VPS reboots. [09:17]

mercutiobrycec: i have openbsd 4.7 too :)
qbit: you can ping the gateway once on startup.
[14:03]
brycecqbit: Right, that gets data flowing. But seems like a flaw, and certainly a regression.
*mercutio
[14:07]
mercutiobrycec: i haven't heard of that happening recently, but i seem to remember it happening a very long time ago [14:08]
brycecIt didn't happen before the host upgrade *shrug* And it's 5.8/amd64 so reasonably current :p [14:08]
mercutiowow
hmm
[14:09]
brycec(At least I'm assuming it didn't, but it's qbit VPS so I can't be positive)
brycec has access to the VPS in question. I speak for the VPS^W trees.)
[14:09]
mercutioi wonder if he's using virtio [14:10]
brycecem
wd disk too, so no virtio whatsoever
[14:10]
mercutioyeah for some reason or other openbsd's been a bit finicky on kvm with e1000 recently
so i'd suggest shifting to virtio
there are some changes happening with e1000 but i don't know if they're in 5.8..
[14:11]
brycecWe could switch to virtio if you think that's worth trying [14:12]
mercutioyeah, but testing mac address not working until doing traffic is difficult :) [14:12]
brycecnot that difficult - I shutdown, you change the KVM, boot it back up. If I can't ping the VPS from my home connection, bug persists. [14:13]
mercutiobecause it'll have a cached mac address on router when you just reboot it. [14:13]
brycecmercutio: that's the thing - even just rebooting the VPS (warm) the issue happens [14:13]
mercutiooh does it happen every reboot?
oh wow.
yeah definitely change it then :)
[14:13]
BryceBotThat's what she said!! [14:13]
mercutiosend a ticket in [14:13]
brycecsure
(I'm just updating pf.conf to handle the change)
[14:13]
mercutiois disk using UUID's? [14:14]
brycecYes (and thank you for checkign!!! i'd forgotten) [14:14]
mercutioi symlink or cp hostname.em0 and hostname.vio0 to be the same [14:14]
brycecYeah did that already ;)
not my first virtio rodeo :p
[14:15]
mercutionot that i've actually ever gone back :) [14:15]
brycecmercutio: quick pm? [14:16]
mercutiopm is fine
i just like tickets to see frequencies of things / have logs etc
[14:16]
brycecOh yeah - just a sensitive question before I email is all [14:17]
qbitheh
i am down
[14:20]
brycecrad [14:21]
qbitreboot away [14:21]
brycec*change+reboot [14:21]
qbityep [14:21]
brycecmercutio: ^ :)
thx qbit
Sorry to interrupt you
[14:21]
qbitinterrupt me? [14:22]
BryceBotThat's what she said!! [14:22]
brycecqbit: from your work/espresso machine [14:22]

[14:22]
brycecAnyways, email sent [14:23]
mercutioi meant from qbit! [14:25]

[14:27]
brycecthx qbit [14:27]
mercutiocool thanks. [14:27]
qbitno, thank you :D [14:28]
brycecThanks mercutio. Waitin' on qbit to have a chance to cold-boot the VPS to see [14:40]
qbitbrycec: should be rebooting [14:45]
brycecLooks like that fixed it [14:46]
mercutiosweet [14:46]
brycecmachine fully shutdown, then it was booted and everything is working [14:46]
mercutioyeah i dunno what openbsd did to e1000 :) [14:47]
qbitwooo [14:47]
mercutiobut changing to virtio is kind of sensible regardless. [14:47]
brycecThanks for the help, mercutio. At least you're around while up_the_irons galavants around Germany (or whatever it is he's up to these days) [14:48]
qbitya! [14:48]
mercutiohe's around. [14:48]
milkigalavanting around
yes
[14:48]
brycec(I've been seeing periodic uploads to his flickr recently of places around Germany, so I assume he's still there) [14:49]
mercutiohe was in here just two days ago [14:50]
brycecDoesn't mean he's not IRC'ing from Germany :p
