Is there a reliable way to detect asymmetric routing without having access to the other side, to perfrom a reverse mtr/trace
ttl
although it won't give you much more information people tend to have normalish ttl settings
so if ttl is 60 when it reaches you, they probably have initial ttl of 64

yeah that's asymmetric
but that's normal
it's got a shorter path in than out
but there can be lots of various reasons to do asymmetric
like the bras that you connect to may have limited ram, and not be able to take a full route table, but still able to advertise it's route tables out
so it may for most routes just take a default route to reach the internet,  but it may still be advertising it's connected users more directly
so that can mean 1 extra hop going out sometimes, compared to in
asymmetric before you get out to the real internet isn't as bad generally
and asymmetric is only really bad when you have reliability issues
as you increase your chances of hitting issues
but pretty much asymmetric for the wider internet is the norm now.  and the biggest issue is when things partially fail rather than fail
such as the peering disputes, giving huge packet loss etc.

but yeah the same applies, it's easy to test
the problem with bcp38 is that it's other people you want to implement it
it doesn't really improve your network that much
compared to making it obvious that you're attacking someone to other people
it's also dangerous for transit situations
and a lot of attacks don't even spoof ip anymore
they just use udp bouncing etc
with various amplification attacks
on windows 10, is there a way to get applications show up as you start typing right after you hit start? Like windows 8?
start8 does that
mine does that
i haven't been using the windows 10 start menu
but with windows 8 you used to have to say what kind of thing you were looking for
like apps, data, etc.

with windows 10
the fullscreen is probably from using start8
win8 it was fullscreen, win10 it isn't
it's just a pop up menu
on start 8 if you click ctrl on the windows start thing it does fullscreen
my use case hasn't changed at all
i still just hit winkey then type the first few letters and hit enter
with 8.1 it was really annoying
just a matter of fullscreen or not, didn't bother me either way as i'm entering a task and the start menu was only there to launch the app

that answers.msft thing up there had a powershell command for reinstalling cortana that seemed to fix it for some people too
