I am here to say that you can do both without even once being prompted for a Microsoft ID. [03:01] you can't do insider program upgrade to rtm without msn [03:01] well that's not a scenario I can test easily :P [03:01] upgraded a Win 7 machine earlier, which obviously didn't have a msft ID associated. And just did a fresh install. [03:02] yeah i had to shift to msn account [03:02] i was using it without for aegs. [03:02] And pleasantly I've got through the whole Win10 install without entering a key :) (I'm sure it will bitch later) [03:03] but i was stuck on 10132 or something [03:03] nah there's no keys now somehow [03:03] it identifys with your motherboard afaik though [03:03] (I mean the clean install) [03:03] so if you change motherboard it'll stop working [03:03] heh, it's prompted a few times and I click "I'll do this later" or whatever [03:03] and i've got it on i7-3770 [03:03] so i may want to change motherboard at some point :( [03:04] so what do you think of windows 10? [03:04] I really, really , really wish the backups weren't running right now. this is slow as fuck [03:04] (but they run in the middle of the night, a good time for backups generally) [03:04] what backups? [03:05] at work [03:05] oh ok [03:05] you're working? [03:05] isn't it like 3 am? :) [03:05] yes, exactly [03:05] because fuck windows [03:05] fuck it so hard [03:05] i remember when people used to say that windows 95 was stable [03:05] and they never had any problems with it [03:05] (dealing with a smattering of issues, from Visual Studio to WSUS) [03:06] there was like an uptime bug that hit after 47 days or something [03:06] hardly anyone used to hit it [03:06] oh apparently it's 49.7 days [03:07] oh it was on 98 too [03:09] I recently discovered the Win-I shortcut. that's made things much simpler. (it opens the control panel) [03:09] have you tried win x? [03:10] i just use win-x, win-d, win-e [03:10] and i start typing for things on control panel normally [03:10] what's win-x? [03:19] it brings up a menu [03:19] which has command prompt, control panel, etc on it [03:19] there's also win-r for run [03:19] yeah I knew the others, and obv win-r [03:19] and for some reason i seem to accidentally do win-l too much [03:19] but -i and -x were new to me [03:20] i lock my screen all the time, on purpose [03:20] i think windows key sticks in synergy or smoething [04:54] i really like how when installign w10 [04:54] the eula says in bold if you're in the states, read the no suing us only arbirtration section [04:54] then when it installs, i have to click customise settings [04:54] and explicitly turn off 10+ things that are like "share location" "share wifi passwords" "auto connect to open wifi networks" [04:54] all enabled by default [05:10] *** hazardous has quit IRC (Ping timeout: 255 seconds) [05:15] *** hazardous has joined #arpnetworks [06:29] *** Guest75323 is now known as qbit [06:58] oh snap - are all the dedi's sold out? :D [06:58] good problem for you guys :D [08:58] *** NiTe has quit IRC (Remote host closed the connection) [09:01] *** NiTe has joined #arpnetworks [09:48] *** LT has quit IRC (Quit: Leaving) [09:50] saw some prefix withdrawal alerts for my v6 prefix announced here last night [10:17] hazardous: _optout_nomap [10:20] hazardous: wow, 10 things? [11:58] yeh i think so [11:59] semi-mainstream news is reporting on the bind vulnerability :) [11:59] gotta scaremonger as much as possible [12:00] well it's been 15 years since it was widely known that bind is a bad idea [12:01] and bind9 did not fix the issues [12:01] at least sendmail isn't common now [12:03] Mostly because sendmail was a beast to configure, not because security :P [12:03] I like BIND because of the excellent documentation and the feature [12:03] features* [12:31] so nice outside today [12:32] Sadly, our nice weather is at an end for now. 32C/90F here at noon, and the high's about 40C/100F [12:33] but for awhile, it didn't get about 23C/75F in the day, super pleasant [12:33] uggghhhh [12:33] humid too? [12:34] Not really, 25% ish [12:34] oh, that's good [12:34] still sucks temp wise since so many houses and stuff don't have ac [12:34] But a whole week of leaving the AC off, in the summer. Was glorious :D [12:34] yeah, hahaha [12:34] mine ran a whopping 30 mins yesterday [12:34] Yeah but they're used to it. Or they buy window/wall/portable AC units [12:35] but it was sub-70F this morning when i ran errands, and only just hit ~80 at 1300 [12:35] Nice :) It still hits 50/60 at night here at least. [12:35] (though earlier in the summer there was brief time it didn't get below 80F) [12:36] yuck [12:36] pissed me off to not only leave the AC on (thermostat) all day and night, but dammit I moved away from Phoenix [12:36] hahaha [12:36] was just thinking that's one of my least fav things about low elevation desert [12:36] phx and las vegas - hot during the day and slightly less hot at night [12:38] Seems like that has much more to do with other aspects than just elevation. For starters, massive concrete island effect in both. [12:38] Phx being in a valley that was frequently subject to atmospheric inversion kept air stale, stagnant, and hot [12:38] elevation is a big part of it [12:38] YOU'RE A BIG PART OF IT! >.> [12:39] <.< [12:39] SO WHAT IF I AM? [12:39] Dude, just fart less. :) [12:39] TOO MUCH HOT AIR OK? [12:39] Oh you're just full of it [12:41] i sure am [12:41] Anyways, yeah, it sucked. [12:41] But if you drove out of town, past the mountains, it cooled riiiight off [12:41] yeah [12:43] adiabatic lapse rate [12:44] couldn't remember the term [12:44] @ud adiabatic lapse rate [12:44] Error, No definitions could be found for: adiabatic+lapse+rate [12:44] http://meteorologytraining.tpub.com/14312/css/14312_47.htm [12:44] Yeah you're just making shit up :P [12:44] hahahah [12:45] tl;dr air cools as it rises? [12:45] yes [12:45] due to pressure [12:45] 1C per 100m of elev change [12:45] appx [12:45] 5.5F per 1kft [12:45] Yeah. Just making sure I understood the point.
