JC_Denton | did you guys scare him away? i thought he was usually on IRC
not that i watch this channel much | [00:16]
brycec | He's definitely been less active than usual, lately. No idea what we did to drive him back to "reality" | [00:29]
JC_Denton | probably busy with something | [00:37]
BryceBot | That's what she said!! | [00:37]
JC_Denton | i find myself paying less and less attention to IRC these days | [00:37]
brycec | BryceBot: no | [00:38]
BryceBot | Oh, okay... I'm sorry. 'probably busy with something' | [00:38]
................. (idle for 1h24mn)
mercutio | jc that's happened to me before too | [02:02]

brycec | IRC is a *massive* time sink. On the other hand, it's 99% of my daily social interaction. Balance is important... | [10:52]
............................................. (idle for 3h41mn)
mercutio | brycec: depends if you were otherwise being productive in that time or not
sometimes distractions help to not be distracated later. | [14:33]
BryceBot | That's what she said!! | [14:33]
brycec | Doesn't matter if it's being productive now or if I'd be productive later. If I get busy chatting now when I'm not being productive, I will likely just keep chatting and never become productive.
(this logic is getting slightly circular) | [14:34]

m0unds | juicessh (android) is pretty nice
got sick of serverauditor getting dementia and forgetting saved servers and stuff | [17:38]
JC_Denton | juice is good for android
i kind of miss iSSH for iOS Prompt is an okay replacement | [17:40]
brycec | JuiceSSH++ | [17:49]
m0unds | didn't realize it integrated mosh support too
that's nice | [17:51] | |
mercutio | does anyone here use mosh?
last i tried it it was really laggy | [17:51]
m0unds | yup
i'm using it now on my macbook | [17:51]
mercutio | but then i was using atom cpu
seemd to be really cpu intensive do you like it? | [17:52]
m0unds | i like it because i can put my laptop to sleep with this session up and open the laptop up and the session just starts back up again
or any session, really, but i tend to leave this one open all the time in totalterminal on osx | [17:52]
mercutio | ahh yeh that sounds like a good use case | [17:53]
m0unds | hit ctl + ~ and it slides down from the top of my screen like a quake console
but aside from this, i don't really use it - local stuff, i just use regular old ssh | [17:53]
brycec | Much like my iodine setup, I have mosh just in case I need it. But really, it's not worth the CPU overhead for normal usage. | [17:57]
mercutio | i don't know why it needs so much cpu | [18:03]
m0unds | doesn't seem that high to me
i mean, it's higher than just regular ssh would be but it's certainly not worrisome to me it'd probably be crappy on something with a wimpy cpu i should install it on my rpi and try it | [18:08]
mercutio | well it was atom 330
so pretty weak cpu i probably shoudl try it again i kind of want to reduce maximum ssh latency i've been kind of thinking for a few years about making a udp based thing that sends packets multiple ways but i haven't done much yet. i think i probably should do a way to test ssh latency better. my repetitive test often seems to offer reduced latency, but when keystrokes first start often there's some jitter so i'm wondering about just adding random delay cur: 140.437msec, min: 140.041msec, max: 149.005msec, avg: 140.559msec like that's only 9 msec atm, but sometimes it can spike much higher. if there's loss it can be easily ove twice that. and when you're on a ssh connection with lag adding another keystroke often helps bump things along | [18:11]

mnathani_ | mnathani_ slaps up_the_irons2 around a bit with a large trout
oops | [21:24] | |
mercutio | mirc? :)
MNATHANI HAS GONE TO THE DARK SIDE actually you were already there weren't you | [21:31]
mnathani_ | I use 2 clients
mirc and weechat trying to summon up_the_irons its not like my VPS needs attention or anything | [21:31]
mercutio | why do you want to summon him? | [21:33]
.... (idle for 18mn) | |||
mnathani_ | no reason | [21:51]
brycec | up_the_irons2: We miss your sparkling conversation :) | [21:53]
.... (idle for 16mn) | |||
JC_Denton | brycec: iodine? | [22:09]
........... (idle for 54mn)
brycec | @google iodine | [23:03]
BryceBot | 1,920,000 total results returned for 'iodine', here's 3
Iodine-131 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iodine-131) Iodine-131 (131I), also loosely and nonspecifically called radioiodine, is an important radioisotope of iodine discovered by Glenn Seaborg and John Livingood ... kryo.se: iodine (IP-over-DNS, IPv4 over DNS tunnel) (http://code.kryo.se/iodine/) iodine lets you tunnel IPv4 data through a DNS server. This can be usable in different situations where internet access is firewalled, but DNS queries are allowed ... | [23:03]
brycec | JC_Denton: ^^ | [23:03]
mnathani_ | does iodine support ssh tunneling over dns queries or is it all pretty much plain text? | [23:11]
JC_Denton | i'm surprised it doesn't trip IDS all over the place | [23:11]
brycec | mnathani_: it's TCP, so whatever you want.
JC_Denton: I think you overestimate the deployment of IDS :P mnathani_: data packets are encoded as base64 and that text is what's used for the DNS query but that's a "fallback" method. Its first goal is to open a direct udp/53 connection. | [23:13]
mnathani_ | anyone into photography using DSLR cameras?
I have always been a point and shoot photographer myself, but am wondering if the time has come to transition into the dark side | [23:27]
brycec | I hear up_the_irons2 is ;P | [23:37]
mercutio | dslr is nice to look at
but it tends to be over intense | [23:41]
mnathani_ | I mean you need to decide how far the object being photographed is before hand, so you may attach the right lens | [23:44] |
