WhoWhatWhen
grodyam i the only crazy one that uses usbip to share my keyboard/mouse across devices?
fairs i dont have clipboard functionality though
and it is a pita when switching devices between hosts (sometimes)
synergy is interesting mind.. should set that up in my study.. having two mice and three keyboards can get confusing during mission status

................ (idle for 1h17mn)
i spent 20 mins using an Apple Laptop today - 20 mins before I wanted to smash it into a thousand pieces [09:03]
m0undswhy? [09:11]
grodyi got it to crash and lag like hell
i only wanted to see if itunes for Mac was as crap as it was for windows
[09:23]
m0undsit's pretty much the same app, iirc [09:24]
grodyit is.. but for some reason the latest download killed her windows (was banshee that won it over, not rhythmbox) [09:25]
m0undsweird [09:25]
grodyand i got the exact same response for the Mac version
now her ipod is lagging like mad too
[09:25]
m0undsthat's weird [09:25]
grodymmm, why i have an outright ban of clear proprietary hardware @home [09:26]
m0undsas far as the mac goes, a refresh usually fixes that sort of stuff (the crashing and lagging) [09:26]
grodywindows is the only exception (and obious java in things like blueray/tv's)
im glad i have lots of long hair... i imagine i've lost quite a bit in the last few hours

mercutiobuggy software is kind of the norm.
with "improvements" in software development there are still a lot of bugs.
but now people want all these features, which introduce more bugs.
people used to complain about amiga's being buggy because an application would crash the system when it accessed memory randomly
but applications trying to access the wrong memory is just "life" and because it doesn't crash the system it's not seen as such a big deal..
it's curious that people seem to keep talking about some amigas that control heat and ac in schools. and act like it'd be really hard to replace them.

........ (idle for 36mn)
mike-burnsThe excitement around the Philae lander coming back to life and notifying us is in part excitement about space (yay!) and in part shock at the idea of a computer being resilient and continuing to function after such a long time.
I mean, it came back from hibernate! My Linux laptop still can't do that.
[15:13]
m0undshahaha [15:17]
.... (idle for 15mn)
mercutioheh in this modern age things seem to be designed to fail
i would never expect a modern fridge to last 20 years
but they used to..
[15:32]
m0undswell, the things people put in space tend to be engineered to last [15:32]
mercutioYeah, it really helps technology in general [15:32]
..... (idle for 21mn)
grodyi have a RS6000/360 here with dSCSI externals and original terminal/kerboard which works quite well
things back then were generally built to last.. now everything is consumerised
was quite amazed at that AC - Amiga story though
hmmm, what did chrom(ium)e update.. both on windows and linux it's gotten faster - lessy laggy :)
[15:53]
...... (idle for 26mn)
mercutiogrody: there's still a lot of old cobol systems around the world.
grody they improved high dpi support recently
which meant i didn't need to zoom so much, and seemed to improve my graphics performance
ublock made a huge difference to my chrome performance
but haven't noticed much else than that
[16:21]
grodyloading sites in general just seem more responsive than before
firefox is still being a sloth though
wished they would release dolphin browser for linux/windows
that thing is lightning fast on android/bb
[16:23]
mercutioi don't know of any good benchmarks :(
http://www.ecs.umass.edu/ece/wolf/pubs/comcom2009.pdf
hmm..
[16:39]
m0undsi'm too locked in to convenience features of major browsers (syncing history, bookmarks, whatever) to want to use another browser [16:44]
mike-burnsI'll gladly use any browser that has a better UI, is faster, and does not crash. Sadly Chromium is the closest. [16:44]
m0undswell, i don't really have issues with any browser crashing, UIs are all pretty similar and speed is within % of each other
chrome sucks on mac, but they're allegedly fixing it
[16:45]
mercutiolastpass just got hacked hah
not that i use it
[16:46]
m0undsheh [16:46]
..... (idle for 24mn)
grodyfor android there is vellamo
i do like the browsing/search hostory synchiing though
[17:10]
m0undsyea, i didn't really take advantage of it w/windows phone because i'm not a huge fan of IE
but since i'm using chrome everywhere, it's proven to be a nice thing
[17:13]
grodynow it's being a lot more speedy, im not having to use opera as much on the lappy [17:26]
mercutioi love chrome remembering where i've been, especially for using phone/tablet
it just makes it so much easier..
[17:29]
m0undsyeah, between that and pushbullet to move links back and forth [17:30]
grodymain reason i use dolphin on android is it has userscript support with tampermonkey
comes in a little handy
i did have one that modified my ISP's user control panel, but they have been changing a few things and it's too much to keep track of
[17:31]
mercutioi hardly ever browse on android [17:35]
m0undschrome chugs really bad on sites w/ads
really, really bad
never noticed it on mobile safari or ie on wp8.1 either
[17:35]

mercutioi'm still trying to figure out why planes are flying over me today
they don't normally :/
[17:54]
m0undsnot sure if NOTAMs are an international thing, but maybe traffic is being diverted in your area [17:55]
mercutioi used to live on the other side of the city and it was more common
it just seems a strange diversion
[17:56]
milkimercutio: their onto you! [17:59]
mercutiowell it's kind of annoying when you get like 5 in a row [17:59]
milkithey
are
-.-
[17:59]
mercutioheh
actualyl it's not that annoying, more just curious
[18:01]

[18:03]
up_the_ironsI should have an ARP meetup in Berlin... don't think anyone would come though ;)
only pyvpx
[18:03]
m0undslol [18:03]
mercutioan arp meetup being like a switch
damnit, that was funnier in my head
[18:03]
grodywouldn't everyone keep asking who and where everyone is though?
ok, dia is too complex for the simplicity i need.. what software is good for a youngster to use to create geometric shapes for fun/artistic?
ideally to create a connect the dot, triangles & squares type theme
[18:12]
m0undshttp://www.printablepaper.net/category/dot
if physical works
[18:20]
mercutiogo for physical
there's so much exposure to techonology without even trying these days
[18:21]
grodyoh it's not for a youngster, usually software geared towards them is actually quite intuitive [18:22]
mercutiooh [18:22]
grodytuxpaint is wonderful, for example
what is left of my grey matter is not coping with with all the fancy stuff on GIMP/DIA etc.
i basically have a sheet of paper with dots that appear randomly allocated, about 140
i need something that can allow me to quickly and easily create patterns, shapes, birds, animals, emblums etc. by connecting them
[18:22]
mercutiowhy not on paper?
i dunno of anything like that, but you could try making your own thing liek that
[18:25]
grodyhmm, carmetal might work
or not..
[18:33]
BryceBotThat's what she said!! [18:35]
