WhoWhatWhen
mercutioso you pay for a cross connect and get another full port? [00:04]
mnathani_I don't really know. Was just joking [00:12]
mercutioahh ok [00:19]

grodyi hate my mobile carrier
they are shaping/throttling my downloads from google play, to 5kb/s
they give me unlimited data and throttle me to dialup modem after 4GB
oddly.. if i sshtunnel or ovpn out from phone, i get max speeds for about an hour, then throttled again
[06:41]

phluxSo, what are you guys using for IRCd/services these days
Since Charybdis/Atheme are no longer under development
I really don't like the idea of InspIRCd
Nothing against them, I just don't need all of those features..I get that it's modular and I can disable half of the shit, but what's the point of running/compiling something that large when I'm only going to use half of it?

JC_DentonNefarious + X3
i like that combo
[12:39]
.... (idle for 17mn)
grodywas about to say.. Nefarious+X3 is a common combo on the IRCs i lurk on
if you want serious small time (single node and handful of users) 27555MHz8008135
oops
wont be using that password again :D
more curious to why openwrt actually lets me copy the password when it's ******'d out
to append what i was saying.. ngircd is quite nice for smalltime
[12:56]
JC_DentonX3 is a great services package [13:04]
..... (idle for 23mn)
bryceclol numeric "boobies" [13:27]
phluxlast I checked, Nefarious and X3 had some serious IPv6 issues
Not to mention the SSL issues and lack of SASL support
[13:31]
JC_Dentonit has working v6 and SSL
not sure what SASL feature you're looking for, but i recommend hitting the dev channel up. it's in #evilnet on AfterNET
[13:36]
phluxLast I checked, v6 required using a tunnel for Nefarious [13:38]
grodybrycec, wifi password - i like to keep them easy [13:51]
JC_Dentonphlux: nah, it's been native for awhile - i run it natively on my network [13:56]
grodyabout to say.. i sit on a network that uses nef+x3 that has native IPv6 and backend auth from services to their webste
^^ Afternet :)
[13:59]
.................... (idle for 1h37mn)
JC_Dentonirc is such a small world [15:37]
phluxJC_Denton: Does it support SASL authentication via any methods?
Most networks don't support SASL EXTERNAL (Charybdis-only feature, I think)
but if it supports any other kind of SASL authentication, I may give it another look
also: I thought Nefarious was developed by evilnet, not afternet :|
https://github.com/evilnet/ircgw <--this used to be the way to do ipv6 with Nefarious. Looks like it still is for their 'nefarious' tree, but maybe not for the nefarious2 tree.
[15:45]
JC_Dentonit's native in nef2
and evilnet pretty much lives on afternet
[15:50]
phluxah
interesting
I'll give it a test run, then. Thanks.
[15:50]
.... (idle for 15mn)
brycecIs there a reason you're using IRC instead of something else like XMPP? (most servers support SASL btw) [16:06]
mercutioXMPP servers are plentiful these days [16:11]
staticsafeeh its a matter of preference
one can use both
[16:15]
brycecSure one can. I was just curious what made IRC a "requirement" for phlux's use case. [16:19]
mercutioi was curious about using irc chat for small groups before too. [16:22]
brycecWe just moved off SILC at work and chose XMPP for the bountiful clients, extensibility, things like server-side logging and channel playback, etc [16:22]
mercutiohow many people here run their own personal jabber server? [16:23]
brycecThe ability to join a channel and see the last 100 lines is somewhat important, and something services like Hipchat tout. I don't see any IRC servers that can do that (wtihout each client running a bouncer)
brycec does, now
[16:23]
mercutioi shifted from ejabberd to prosody [16:24]
brycec(Well it's not "personal", I run the company's xmpp) [16:24]
mercutioahh [16:25]
brycecI quite like Prosody :) [16:25]
mercutioare you using prosody too? :) [16:25]
brycecI have no reason to run a "personal" XMPP server - who am I going to talk to? (Even with federation, everyone I talk to online is by IRC)
Yup
[16:25]
mercutioheh i don't talk to that many people on jabber
i kind of wish it'd take off more. a lot of people use skype :/
i'm still on icq :/
[16:25]
brycecMy only grievance with XMPP is that JIDs in MUCs are different from the user's own JID (eg: blah@conference.blah.com) [16:26]
mercutioahh [16:26]
brycecSo someone double-clicks your nick in the muc and they're chatting /through/ the muc component to "you" and not actual you
brycec could have worded all that better, sorry
[16:27]
mercutiobyeh that's messsy [16:29]

mnathani_I remember my Icq number from back in the 90s [19:28]
brycecI do too

[19:28]
staticsafewhat is ICQ? :) [19:34]
brycec@ud ICQ [19:34]
BryceBotICQ: A chat-programm (I SEEK YOU) where you can instant message people in your list.rPeople first get an ICQ number rwhich can be send to others so that they can add you to their buddies list.rFortunantly, there is an "AUTHORIZE" option ,rso random people can't add you if you don't want it when they found ryou through the search option.rrThe best option is the Invisible Mode:rpeople can't see your online status, rexcept if you want them.[19:34] <brycec> I was expecting something worse from UrbanDictionary. [19:34]
staticsafeICQ wasn't really a thing when I was a kid, mostly MSN Messenger [19:35]
..... (idle for 24mn)
mercutioicq was 90s.
i remember mine too
16276662
[19:59]
brycecAnd here I thought I'd had ICQ for a long time... [20:02]
mercutioheh
icq wasn't too bad at first.
then it got lame.
it used to not be bloated etc on windows.
i used to use micq on linux thoug.

mercutioyou can't really tell what's happening from that.
well you can tell it reaches google and doesn't get back to you
[22:59]
mnathani_could be my ISP or Google
most likely my ISP
or the anycast node I am hitting
[23:04]
mercutioare normal google services fine?
sometimes i see 8.8.8.8 going somewhere further away, but generally i've found it stable
i just find the performance is terrible.
[23:05]
mnathani_google search seems to be a bit slow
but working
google.com. 130 IN A 216.58.216.238
although thats an ISP address not Google
[23:05]
mercutiothat's where arp goes
well i'm getting 216.58.216.4 from arp
and it's 0.5 msec ping
well 0.7 avg, 0.5 min
[23:06]
mnathani_its google actually
hmm
[23:07]
mercutioi wonder if it goes to los angeles or if it's anycasted
well the name says lax on it :)
[23:07]
mnathani_I switched my dns to 4.2.2.2
cos the 8.8.8.8 was not working
[23:08]
mercutio4.2.2.1 is better
why don't you use your isp dns?
[23:08]
mnathani_hard to remember ip [23:08]
mercutioheh [23:08]
mnathani_or have to look it up [23:08]
mercutio4.2.2.1, 4.2.2.2 etc aren't actually advertised as open dns afaik
they've just been open forever and seem to work :)

hmm deosn't realyl say much
[23:09]
acf___yea.. 8.8.8.8 has been having some issues
I think 4.2.2.2 has started doing those stupid search page things
[23:16]
mercutiowow [23:16]
acf___hmm.. it's returning NXDOMAIN now, that's good [23:16]
mercutiodmanit i tried to guess a non-existant domain name and of course it was taken [23:17]
acf___a while ago it was redirecting to a Level3 search page [23:17]
mercutioseems fine from here
Host www.asdasdjkl.com not found: 3(NXDOMAIN)
that was to 4.2.2.1
probably sj node
oh nah it's los angeles.

acf___yea.. I use the Google and HE anycast servers [23:19]
