OMGKitteh: So I've been waiting for about a week for a BGP session w/ you guys. Anyone awake to kick it forward a bit ? mercutio: mention up_the_irons
ime with bgp with anyone it can take a varilable amount of time.
from short to long OMGKitteh: :D mercutio: mentioning his name will hilight when he reads this :) OMGKitteh: Yupp, you flagged them already mercutio: i think my bgp session took about a week OMGKitteh: Heh, I even have some rough code to auto-provision peerings via NETCONF to make session setup faster :) mercutio: heh
you might want to respond to bump too

https://plus.google.com/+supercurioFran%C3%A7oisSimond/posts/fQmsz4wL5Mc whoops acf___: :/
I just ordered two of those from Amazon a couple days ago mercutio: 840evos? acf___: hmm.. looks like I got 850 EVO
I wonder if it's also affected mercutio: 850 evo isn't
and 850 evos ar epertty gre4at
i just got one to replace my 840 evo
well one of them
i am going to shift my other 850 evo out of my windows box and into my linux box
i'm doing raid on 4 ssd's :/
mirorred raid, and the 840 evos really slow it down acf___: hmm. in case of an SSD failure? mercutio: yeah acf___: does that happen? mercutio: and in some vain hope to keep up with network speed :)
yeah it adoes happen
but it's usually total failure acf___: I know there is a problem if you cut power to the SSD mercutio: not like a hard-disk where it stgarts to have bad blocks. acf___: yea.. mercutio: there's a problem with hard-disks if you cut power too
i had a power cut the other day acf___: I can kind of understand the power cuts causing problems
because some operations aren't atomic or something
but.. solid state components just failing?
that seems like a quality problem BryceBot: That's what she said!! mercutio: well so far i've had weird issues acf___: like what? mercutio: sorry just got up :)
umm m4 uuptime bug, stopped working after 30 days uptime and had to flash upgrade.
ocz sandforce issues
ocz agility 4 issues
samsunug 840, and samsung 840 evo slow read performance
the 840 is worse than the 840 evo, i get 10mb/sec.
but other people have had failures i think
i will probably go back to raidz if i can get a good price on another ~480 gb drive.
raid 10 is probably a bit over klil acf___: huh fun.. I imagine in a couple of years these things will be mostly worked out with most of the brands mercutio: linux really doesn't take good advantage of ssd's yet for piling on the reads :( ***: poulsen has joined #arpnetworks mercutio: acf: the 850 evos use 3d nand
which is kind of new... ***: poulsen has quit IRC (Ping timeout: 264 seconds)
poulsen has joined #arpnetworks brycec: UGH it's never a good sign when checking in for a flight and there's a prompt "volunteers are needed" mercutio: uuhuh what
what happened? brycec: Presumably the flight is overbooked
"We are seeking volunteers willing to take a different flight..." mercutio: oh
how do they overbook
here they used to have standby flights
to fill in empty seats.
maybe tthey had a missing flight or something
like couuldn't do one of the normal runs.
or had to stop off somewhere diff brycec: I dunno, the flight is tomorrow. You'd think they could sort it out in time. mercutio: oh wow
secure erasing is kind of a pita, even in linux. i found i had to remove power/data and replugin while machine was on to unlock brycec: For security! Though to be fair, that's not Linux's fault (the unplug thing) mercutio: i'd rather be able to disable that in bios
then i could secure erase once a month one of the ssd's :)
i really should do this 850 evo swap ***: mordac_ is now known as mordac mercutio: 2.43G scanned out of 267G at 191M/s, 0h23m to go
at least didn't have to shut down to replace ssd :)
it seems to be reading at 60 to 80mb/sec ***: dj_goku has joined #arpnetworks m0unds: brycec: i get that on something like 75% of the flights i take
most frequently w/delta and usair
most of my eastbound flights are via delta, so i think that's part of why i see it so often. upshot w/them is that if the flight is overbooked, they'll often do free bag checking
at the gate ^ brycec: Well ding ding ding, this is an Eastbound flight on Delta, so I guess that explains that :p m0unds: :) brycec: There are only two flights from $here to $there, so rebooking would mean taking the flight that arrives at midnight, not really an option for me. As much as I wouldn't mind a fat travel voucher. m0unds: bummer brycec: (well it technically gets more complicated because these are flights with layovers/plane changes because there are no direct flights in the first place...) m0unds: right, that's not a fun thing to mess around with
i had to fly to daytona beach in march for something, and there was only one scheduled flight out of atl for daytona each weekday, and our arrival into atl gave us like 15 mins before boarding brycec: oof m0unds: luckily there was a little bit of a delay due to weather out of atl
we had to deice in albuquerque before departing, so we left late
fun stuff
haha mercutio: haha
damn sounds painful brycec: more painful if it was individual de-icing ;) mercutio: i failed/removed/readded my 840 evo
it's way quicker to resynfc to the 840 evo than it was to read from it
i wonder how to do that nicely with zfs though ***: poulsen has quit IRC (Remote host closed the connection) mnathani_: fight just started brycec: Where, in here? >.>
