mike-burnsThey got systemd to work? [03:04]
mercutiomaybe
apparently it's still kind of a bit dodgy with upgrades
i don't think it's anything unsolvable
[03:04]
mike-burnsYou have a lot of optimism. [03:14]
........... (idle for 53mn)

grodymy isp are pretty cool, they run a unit/tariff type system which works out just right for me
just expensive to download lots during peak hours, which i never do fortunately
but come off peak its more relaxed and during a "special" period, it's pratically unmetered
upload is fine though, can do as much as that as i like (which is always handy)
http://imgur.com/73miRRr
http://imgur.com/VIK3Fly < especially ♥ my ISP for pretty graphs too
[14:13]
mercutiohow expensive ise it? [14:24]
grodyvaries. more than the average ISP.. thats for sure
http://ww.aa.net.uk
[14:24]
mercutiobandwidth chraging used to be common here, but now things are moving to unlimited a lot of times
and i'm kind of against it
[14:24]
grodyyea, unlimited here has a whole new meaning
the units system this isp use is really good if you ask me
[14:24]
mercutionow the new thing is not shaping traffic
as if that's a good thign :)
[14:25]
grodyhah [14:25]
mercutiothere used to be some chronic bittorrent shaping on some isp's
and people were working around it with tunnels and so forth
so then tunnels get rate limited
it's kind of silly
[14:25]
grodythey rate limit https on my mobile network [14:26]
mercutiowhat's needed is aqm, and giving users a fair portion of various pipes
buut it's so damn complicated.
[14:26]
grodybecause people ran openvpn etc. on tcp 443 to bypass filters [14:26]
mercutiolike where is the bottleneck?
3g can congest quitue badly with unlimited
i imagine 4g coudl too
the "Real" soluution is to add more towers
but that's muuch easier said than done
[14:26]
grody3/4g speeds here aren't too bad when it's optimal [14:27]
mercutiothis couuntry has actually fast fast mobile speeds according to speedtest.net/ookla
but i haven't ofund that to be the case :/
[14:27]
grodyi get between 6-12mbit/s on hspa and seen 37 (usually about 15-20) on 4g [14:27]
mercutioi can't even get 4g yet :/ [14:28]
grodyeverywhere ig going fibre here [14:28]
mercutioi get about 3 to 6 megabit/sec on 3g
but my phone is 4g
and 4g is in quite a few locations now
just not near me :/
[14:28]
grodyyea my phone is, but my main carrier hasnt enabled it yet
my other network is for no extra cost and when it works.. wow
[14:28]
mercutioanother provider does dual carrier hspa
and that seems a lot faster than normal 3g
but not as fast as 4g
i have never done speed test on 4g, buut maps etc is way quicker
[14:28]
grodyhah only getting 10mbit on 4g atm
thats vodafone though, they kinda suck for speed
[14:30]
mercutioyeah we have vodafone here too
and they do the dual carrier hspa
[14:30]
grodymm, they seem to have the best overall coverage here [14:31]
mercutioi have a usub stick thingy with data with them [14:31]
grodywhich is important [14:31]
mercutiobut it's a big sim so i can't stick it in my phone :/ [14:31]
grodyget a sim mod kit.. can use micro in normal (just not nano)
£1 land sells them here
[14:31]
mercutioyou can cut them
hmm
yeah i could try
[14:34]
grodywell, cut the normal to a micro, but then a small adaptor so you can still use the micro in a normal
it's those nanos that are annoying
[14:35]
mercutioyeahi could do
but it'd only be to test speed really
[14:38]
grodyhmm
someones been using my custom openwrt mirror
i thought i was the only one crazy to use this ancient ramip routers
