My VPS sends mail, probably some of it on 25
Then again, 90+% is going to gmail, so it should be tls
with the right spf records you shouldn't relaly need to bounce via fastmail?

mnathani_: re: mutt, i found it's easier to just use msmtp locally and let it handle the actual outbound delivery
it's nice if/when you send messages with 25 mb attachments and don't have to wait for it to actually get sent before you regain use of mutt
I would imagine you could substitute any MTA that queues (what doesn't?) in place of exim there, such as opensmtpd (small and trim, very powerful, plus it's Open)

I mean, you can do that with practically any MTA. Just a matter of how easy it is.
OpenSMTPD is: accept sender { "@company", "bob@bobco.com" } relay via ...
i don't use that for anything other sending locally generated out to a relayhost
