[11:38] since we can emulate a 68k in real time with javascript, exactly. :) [12:21] i have 68030@50mhz with mmu, it's surprisingly slow at some things. [12:22] basically repetitive instruction speed has gone up heaps since then, but table based lookups etc were more efficient in comparison back then. [12:24] i think there was 256 byte instruction, 256 byte data cache back then, and it's way bigger now [12:26] heh 18 mips vs 127,273 mips. [12:51] I still cringe when I hear of people talk of the 6800 as "1 mip" [12:51] Millions of Instructions Per (what?) [12:51] lukcily, we rarely have 1 mips for anything now. :) [12:52] well yeah mips doesn't mean much other than how quickly you can run null loops [12:53] which has risen more than other things. [12:53] back in the day, it was related to typical instruction time though [12:53] before we had risc and pipelining [12:53] 68040 is way quicker than 68030 at simple things. [12:54] 68040 is clocked doubled iirc too just not advertising the fact like dx2 was. [12:54] so 68040@25 mhz is like 486dx2-50 [12:54] mhz wise... performance wise i think they're in the same generation at least. [12:55] i remember when 486dx4/100 was like the fastest computer ever, and the newer pentiums were acutally slower.
