Anyone here work with a mainframe before / currently? mnathani: I do, for the last 30 years, why do you ask? Was wondering what it's like and how folks integrate with Web applications mainframes are superiour for doing IO, so what you usually have these days is a network of PC-style servers, usually windows, unix if you are lucky, to interact with the user via web-, java- or dotnet-apps, the databases are most of the time (but not always) still on the mainframe (IMS or CICS usualy) and batch processing on those databases still happens on the mainframe (because it excells in IO) mainframes these days also talk TCP/IP so what also happens often is that databases exist on the PC-style servers and data is then exported, sent by ftp or ssh to the mainframe where they are reimported thanks DaCa yw daca: are they still superior? DaCa: do any of the mainframes you work with run Linux?
