twobithackerI don't suppose anyone has considered working http://guac-dev.org/ into the VPS KVM for arp? [12:53]
........... (idle for 54mn)
up_the_ironstwobithacker: i haven't had anyone request that iso yet [13:47]
brycecup_the_irons: ISO? It's a VNC replacement
And I wholeheartedly back NoVNC :P
[13:58]
mercutiobash is only on linux systems :/
i was actually surprised how many non-linux systems didn't have bash installed.
cos i use zsh as an interactive shell, and bash is only if you want to run stupid autoconfigure scripts etc.
[14:02]
brycecThat doesn't seem right, "only on"
cygwin installs bash by default, for instance
[14:02]
mercutioi hate cygwin :) [14:03]
bryceci don't care for win, but at least cygwin gives me a cli [14:03]
mercutioi think solaris installs it by default too
it depensd if /bin/sh goes to /bin/bash too
i found cygwin painfully slow like 10 years+ ago
then i tried it later, and it was still painfully slow.
[14:03]
brycecI don't do much, usually just curl stuff, but it's perfectly fine [14:04]
mercutioi just use synergy :) shared mouse/keyboard between linux/windows computers [14:04]
brycecDoesn't work on a dual-boot machine though :P
(home gaming pc)
[14:04]
mercutioi did xen on my "home gaming pc" for a while.
jumped to 24gb of ram and it was ok.
using vt-d passthrough for video
[14:05]
up_the_ironsbrycec: i stand corrected [14:05]
***neish has quit IRC (Ping timeout: 260 seconds) [14:05]
mercutiobut you still need two monitors that way
like i used onboard intel video for linux, and pci-e video card for windows

brycecProbably easier to just dual-boot :P [14:09]
BryceBotThat's what she said!! [14:09]
brycecBryceBot: no [14:09]
BryceBotOh, okay... I'm sorry. 'Probably easier to just dual-boot :P' [14:09]
mercutioBryceBot: i hardly ever dual boot, and i have linux on it too now :)
but linux doesn't work properly with radeon graphics card.
so the fan spins really quick. at least when using vt-d and passing it through to windows, it'd spin the fan speed down
[14:09]
brycecHow so? (doesn't it work, he says typing on a linux/radeon system) [14:10]
mercutiowell this system is radeon too, but fanless
the fan boots up at a low-high speed
when windows boots the fan goes slower.
when linux boots it stays at the boot setting
it may be fixed now, it's broken in 3.13 still
[14:13]
brycecmercutio: Running the binary "catalyst" drivers? [14:14]
mercutionah no binary drivers.
yeah binary may fix it, but it's arch linux.
[14:14]
brycecWell no wonder :p
So's this, mercutio
[14:15]
mercutiofollowing arch linux with catalyst is a nightmare. [14:15]
brycecAUR ftw
I disagree
[14:15]
mercutiowell when there are new kernels you often find catalyst won't compile.
i suppose i could consider binary drivers.
[14:15]
brycecAs it happens, no I don't find that. :p [14:15]
BryceBotThat's what she said!! [14:15]
brycecOnly caveat is that my xorg is locked to an older version, because Catalyst doesn't support the latest
ftw https://aur.archlinux.org/pkgbase/catalyst-total/
(if you weren't already using/tried that)
[14:16]
mercutiohmm
i think i'm using xorg 1.16
[14:17]
brycecdowngrading is a bitch, but doable [14:18]
BryceBotThat's what she said!! [14:18]
mercutioi have radeon 7850, so it's not newest of the new. it may be supported now. [14:18]
brycecBryceBot: no [14:18]
BryceBotOh, okay... I'm sorry. 'downgrading is a bitch, but doable' [14:18]
mercutiobrycebot is being funny [14:18]
brycec6870 on my home system
(no clue what I have here)
[14:18]
mercutio6870 may be ok with open source
i have 7770 on my "linux server"
i think that's what it is
no, 7750 ahh
[14:19]
brycecMight be, but I want the performance and open source tends to fall flat on its face when it came to performance and quad-head [14:20]
mercutiowhich is probably also got fan problems, but fanless
quad head wow :)
i just have two 1440p monitors now, one on each computer.
the cheap ebay things.
[14:20]
brycecI started with 2x2. Later came to realize that's just more than I can handle, I get too distracted [14:21]
mercutioi used to use 3 monitors. i ahve a spare 1920x1200 monitor, but it makes me desk feel crowded. [14:21]
brycecBut it was an impressive sight to see [14:21]
mercutioi was thinking of pivoting it. [14:21]
brycec(2x2 23" 1920x1080, collectively 3840x2160) [14:21]
mercutioi'll probably end up using it again soon, and just turning it on/off, and setting up kvm or something, and using it to throw up test things or such.
that's only like 1/8th higher reoslution than me?
1440p is a bit of a pita tbh.
you end up with small text in lots of things.
hopefully 4k monitors being cheap now pushes people to add better resolution independance
[14:22]
brycec(if yours are 2 2560x1440, then you actually have exactly twice my resolution)
3840*2160= 8294400, 5120*1440=7372800
[14:27]
mercutiooh you've gone back to 2x1080p
and it's not exact..
[14:29]
brycecI have, but I was doing the math on 4x 1080p monitors [14:29]
mercutioyeah
try 2x1440p :)
they're ~$300 USD each
for PLS monitors
[14:29]
brycecI have a 2560x1440 :D
it's glorious
[14:29]
mercutiooh [14:29]
brycecbut that's a different system
so I didn't mention it
[14:30]
BryceBotThat's what she said!! [14:30]
brycecBryceBot: no [14:30]
BryceBotOh, okay... I'm sorry. 'so I didn't mention it' [14:30]
brycecBryceBot: you are terrible and you should feel bad [14:30]
mercutiohttp://www.ebay.com/itm/X-STAR-DP2710-LED-MULTI-27inch-AH-VA-Panel-WQHD-2560x1440-Computer-Monitor-/331180242313?pt=Computer_Monitors&hash=item4d1be17589
these etc
eek that one says ah-va
i have qx2710 II
[14:30]
brycecmercutio: I own two of these http://www.monoprice.com/Product?c_id=114&cp_id=11401&cs_id=1130703&p_id=10509&seq=1&format=2 (bought cheaper, yay group buys and bulk discounts)
But neither of them are on my home gaming system
[14:31]
mercutiointeresting
it has vga
[14:32]
brycecBecause who loves stretched 1080p
obviously, I use dl-dvi
[14:32]
mercutiostreteched 1080p?
oh right
[14:32]
brycecthat's vga's limit is 1080p
or something like that
[14:32]
mercutioyeh i can't even support anything other than 1440p [14:32]
brycecthink that's its limit [14:33]
mercutioi tihnk vga can do 2560x1600
but it gets worse and worse
i did 1920x1440 on a cert once though
crt
so i know it can do more than 1080p
i think vga was defined as up to 2048x1536 in the past.

mnathanibrycec: Is: 17:30:10 BryceBot | That's what she said!! << a bug with BryceBot ?
or is it more like feature?

brycecbayesian learning of what's funny/not funny [14:45]
up_the_ironsindeed, it's a feature and she liked it [14:46]

BryceBot<brycec> bayesian learning of what's what she said/not what she said [14:46]
mnathani+1 for synergy : mercutio, I used to use it A LOT. Now I have a single system with 3 monitors, not so much [14:48]
brycec^ ditto
I used to have 3 towers and a laptop, running 5 monitors, controlled via synergy
[14:49]
mercutiomnathani: i love it :) [14:50]
mnathaniI remember using it with OSX and Windows, worked great
then also for some time with Linux and Windows
[14:50]

Its one of those things that could be confused with magic by some folks who aren't in the know [15:07]
mercutioheh
it is like magic compared to not having it
[15:09]
BryceBotThat's what she said!! [15:09]
mercutioway nicer than using a kvm [15:09]
brycecI've deployed it with a few clients and they are convinced it's magic
and it is... until they try and move a window
[15:12]
mercutiohaha [15:16]
......... (idle for 43mn)
mnathaniAlthough any really good piece of technology is indistinguishable from magic
Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clarke's_three_laws
[15:59]
BryceBotClarke's three laws :: Clarke's Three Laws are three "laws" of prediction formulated by the British writer Arthur C. Clarke. They are: When a distinguished but elderly scientist states that something is possible, he is almost certainly right. When he states that something is impossible, he is very probably wrong. The only way of discovering the limits of the possible is to venture a little way past them into the impossible. Any sufficiently... [16:01]

which irc server?
are you talking about morgan.freenode.net?
the one you're connected to?
and still, if so, why do you care?
[18:39]
zhangxiaobaoI mean, i was looking at the irc logs, and I see all these times, but I don't know what time zone the times are in [18:40]
RandalSchwartzOh, the logs for arp
very likely America/LosAngeles
since that's where arp is based
