up_the_irons | brycec: i've actually had a lot of success over the last year in delegating the hands on stuff (to toeshred), so i'm not at the data center nearly as much as i used to be. Trouble is, i'd have to find someone like that in us-east or EU, in order to expand in those regions. If I *could*, however, then a second location, even out of the US, would be much more possible
i wanted to tell erratic that too, but he's not here... | [13:04] |
toeshred | Most of that success goes to up_the_irons for being such a fantastic leader. | [13:12] |

mnathani | what makes a link sype click to call enabled?
is there a special tag or keyword I need to use? | [20:32] |
RandalSchwartz | sype?
skype ? | [20:43] |
mnathani | Skype | [20:43] |
RandalSchwartz | on OSX?
or in general? some operating systems allow registration of special prefixes on OSX, I think it's "skype://150355521212" | [20:43] |
mnathani | I have this click to call in the browser | [20:44] |
RandalSchwartz | yes browser on what platform? | [20:44] |
mnathani | Windows | [20:44] |
RandalSchwartz | ... http://sevenspark.com/tutorials/skype-uri-link-wordpress-menu
that might help ahh.. skype:username?call but that may not work everywhere. worked on my mac though as in 'skype:echo123?call' to call "the skype lady" | [20:44] |
mnathani | on windows, I think the skype:number goes to the metro app
rather than the desktop app | [20:48] |
RandalSchwartz | I have no idea what "metro app" means
so I'll just hope you've solved your own problem or can type google questions to distinguish those I have never owned a computer that came installed with windows | [20:48] |
mnathani | RandalSchwartz: what brand laptop do you purchase, that dose not have windows preinstalled? | [20:51] |
RandalSchwartz | Apple | [20:55] |
mnathani | What about the whose FLOSS movement
s/whose/whole | [20:56] |
BryceBot | <mnathani> What about the whole FLOSS movement | [20:56] |
mnathani | do you end up dual boot into FreeBSD or run VMs? | [20:56] |
RandalSchwartz | I run lots of open source software on OSX
I run FreeBSD on my servers, not my laptop I do have some VirtualBox VMs to mimic my client's servers for testing | [21:00] |
mnathani | RandalSchwartz: roger
What about any instances on Amazon's infrastructure | [21:02] |
RandalSchwartz | well - there is indeed freebsd AMIs but they have to run on a windows (pay a lot per hour) hardware
I just don't use those I have 5 boxes here at arp all booting off ZFS one bare metal, four VPS | [21:03] |
.... (idle for 15mn) | ||
mnathani | cool | [21:19] |
RandalSchwartz: do you know if Linus uses IRC at all? | [21:31] | |
RandalSchwartz | I suspect not
he rarely goes to conferences too | [21:32] |
mnathani | my dad lives on Portland
I live in Toronto, Canada however | [21:33] |
RandalSchwartz | I live near Portland (in the Portland metro area), and can't go to Toronto :) | [21:33] |
mnathani | Do you still pilot aircrafts these days? | [21:34] |
RandalSchwartz | My last PIC was in 1994, about a week before the whole Intel thing went down | [21:38] |
