mnathaniHow would I get a chromecast connected using wifi to go over a VPN connection provided by pFsense?
I need to be able to toggle the wifi connection to go on and off VPN on demand
Wireless Access point is Aironet Cisco
Wired Router is Mikrotik

m0undsum, vlan w/gateway being the local vpn endpoint maybe? i dunno [06:30]

brycecYep. Chromecast has no advanced connection stuff like VPN. Your only option is to put it behind a router that will route the traffic as you desire, such as setting up a separate AP/VLAN and the router putting all that traffic over a VPN connection. And you could always script the "toggle"
However, IIRC only the Netflix app (assuming that's what we're talking about) cares about your region/geoip. The streaming data itself doesn't care, and the app simply instructs the Chromecast "hey, fetch and play this stream". So just setup the VPN connection on your phone and go.
Pandora works this way - the UI stuff has to come from a valid geoip, but you can stream from wherever. Learned this while playing with http://6xq.net/projects/pianobar/

plett_I've been meaning to implement something similar to https://github.com/retropc/dvroute to get US Netflix to my Chromecast. At the moment I have a second wifi SSID on a vlan which is IPsec tunnelled to my arp VPS, but that's annoying as I need both the chromecast and the controlling device to be on this second SSID, which means it can't see the rest of my lan [08:10]
***plett_ is now known as plett [08:12]
brycecWell it's easy to route traffic between VLANs, but that doesn't make the autodetection (UPNP broadcasts) work right :p [08:16]
m0undsi really need to stop being a lazy bastard and run some cat6 between the floors in my house, so i can stop using this powerline networking stuff [08:17]
plettbrycec: It's also more so that I can keep UK specific content like BBC iPlayer working while also having US Netflix [08:18]
m0undsto do the inverse of that (get my wife access to iplayer from the US) i set up an acct w/witopia so she can connect to one of their london POPs [08:19]

m0undsthe big diversion channel that runs N/S, discharging into the rio grande hit almost 5000 cubic feet/sec last night due to rainfall
pretty wacky considering the 75th pct flow rate for the river is only 950, haha
i guess the peak value for the last year is over 7000cfs in that channel

***erratic has quit IRC (Quit: leaving) [23:43]
brycecIt's been discussed in the past, but up_the_irons' first goal is a us-east expansion.
up_the_irons is very, very hands-on and a us-east is pushing the limits of ability to be hands-on (gotta ship equipment, or source locally while staying in a local hotel, etc just for the setup). All in all, it's taxing. And to juggle those logistics out-of-country is a huuuuge undertaking.
