when installing ubuntu using the 'expert' mode, it asks what kernel to install. Whats the difference between say a server kernel vs generic vs virtual vs signed-image etc? virtual is stripped down and has no extraneous stuff generic has everything, desktop has higher timer resolution (At least, it did, i haven't looked in years) oh, according to ubuntu docs, there's no difference between desktop and server since 12.04 And signed-image likely has a UEFI secure-boot signature, probably since pkg_delete is gone, anyone have a sane way of uninstalling all packages with pkg? i suppose i could just script some loop but would like a cleaner way ie built in fbsd neish pkg delete -a -a Deletes all installed packages from the system and empties the database. neish: what os removed pkg_delete ? FreeBSD When FreeBSD went 100% pkgng all the pkg_ tools are gone, replaced by pkg(8) (And it's soooo fast <3) brycec: thanks bro ill give it a try statd is running as pid 666. of course it is yeah, pkg is pretty sweet i likes it
