mercutio: mnathani: Someone could always buy them out anyway
OS X got ditched for powerpc users pretty quickly fwiw.
And people still buy Apple products.
m0unds: i'd stop using computers if i was forced to use linux on a desktop
http://store.fourguysguns.com/products/102nd-chairborne-ranger-tee
RandalSchwartz: thank goodness for freebsd, so we can use real unix and not a unix wannabe
I say this with all respect for my friend and fellow portlander Linus
m0unds: haha
i love bsd, just not a fan of it on ze desktop
pc-bsd is getting there wrt making it sort of work in that capacity out of the box though
sjackso: I feel like there will never be a good desktop experience sitting on top of x windows
</curmudgeon>
m0unds: haha, i agree
they need to rethink it
i get the desire to preserve a framework compatible with tons of desktop envs, but it's inconsistent and sucks
and that's ultimately why i won't use linux on a desktop; tries way too hard to do too many things adequately and it makes me feel like it's not particularly good at any of them (as far as desktop use goes)

sjackso: m0unds: not sure I'm ready for the giant talking zombie plant in HD. :P
m0unds: lol
mike-burns: I'm back on BSD on the laptop (been on Debian for the past four years). It's great to be back on something with a stable base, but the direction desktop environments are taking today is rather disappointing.
m0unds: god, 5 hour energy tastes awful
it's like a mixture between carbonated anti-nausea medication and sugar free gum
gross
brycec: Still better than Red Bull imo
m0unds: i'm not a fan of any of it really
i like coffee
but this was like taking a shot of emetrol or something
yuck
it's like sticking to the inside of my mouth, hahaha

silly people
m0unds: yup
i also found out if you kill certain folks w/the banshee they'll send whiny /tell msgs but i forgot to take a screenshot

got swarmed from multiple directions by enemy push
m0unds: yeah, it is
tech plant fights annoy me because it seems like 80% of people don't realize there are tubes to quickly get them into the building
rather than walking and getting mauled by tanks or aircraft

-: brycec sets out to rob m0unds's employer
m0unds: knock yourself out
hahaha
brycec: Would liven things up
Possibly give you something to do
m0unds: yeah, absolutely
only if you broke my networking gear or cameras while robbing
cut a hole in the roof and run a firehose in it
brycec: Figured someone would be coming for the footage...
But I could just go the sprinkler route
m0unds: yeah, that'd implicate me specifically in doing something
brycec: Your closets are water tight, right?
m0unds: there are people who handle reviewing and showing video
sure aren't!
brycec: So the sprinklers would be bad? :D
m0unds: well shit, sprinklers wouldn't work
we use fm-200 everywhere
most you'd do is have water run under the door from the hall
brycec: lol probably smart
m0unds: hahahaha
i have some outdoor cameras up on the surveillance client in my office
it's like having a window
brycec: That's so sad...
m0unds: yeah, i agree
hahahah
brycec: stupid damn blackberry....
m0unds: we have tiny windows along the outer perimeter of one side of the surveillance room itself, but most of them are too dirty to even see outside
blackberry? really?
brycec: Yeah
unearthed the ol' blackberry
m0unds: old one or one of the new qnx ones?
brycec: old
Bold 9700
m0unds: i had an 8820 back in ze day
brycec: I've had many...
Curve 8310 before this
m0unds: the ui on the new ones is actually pretty nice
brycec: before that, another 8xxx, and before that a 7xxx
mnathani: whats the go to RSS reader people use these days?
m0unds: the hub stuff is cool, typography is good
brycec: mnathani: rss2email for me
m0unds: umm, prismatic is sort of neat if that's still around
-: m0unds doesn't really rss
brycec: I use RSS for release announcements and webcomics
m0unds: http://getprismatic.com/home
brycec: Both of which are best when delivered to my inbox
m0unds: What was really fun about resurrecting the old thing was some of the root certs on it have expired. Broke all Google SSL :D
m0unds: nice!
i tried reviving my 8820 last year, but the battery had ballooned up
brycec: Same with my 8310s
But the Bold is still good
Last used it 2 years ago at Defcon
m0unds: musta just been a shitty run of 8xxx series batteries
brycec: Going to use it again this year.
m0unds: haha, nice
brycec: Damnit... This is why it fails to connect :( hostapd: ath0.2: STA 00:26:ff:7d:a2:7f IEEE 802.11: Station does not support mandatory HT PHY - reject association
But it was working yesterday
m0unds: huh
-: brycec endeavours to find out what require_ht=1 does
mhoran: I believe that requires 40mhz (high throughput) even in busy environments.
Normally an AP would drop back to only one 20mhz channel.
brycec: HT = high throughput?
mhoran: Indeed.
brycec: Ah, mystery #1 solved then.
Now to figure out which ddwrt setting equates to require_ht
mhoran: Heh.
brycec: I have a feeling I know too :/
m0unds: dd-wrt makes my head hurt
mhoran: I run OpenWRT myself.
mnathani: brycec: hmm, I just installed rss2email, but images are not getting embeddied in the emails / posts
brycec: OpenWRT made my head hurt. ddwrt at least had a website that said "here's what to downloda"
Regardless, ddwrt gets the job done, so I'm happy
mhoran: Ah, yeah. The OpenWRT guys are bad at that.
dd-wrt didn't run on my router.
The OpenWRT wiki is always edge, so if you try to configure something you need to run the snapshots or the docs are too new.
brycec: mnathani: Did you set HTML_MAIL in your config?
m0unds: dd-wrt did a horrid job of keeping their codebase for the "open" stuff vs "paid" stuff separate and some iptables rules and stuff made it into a whole series of builds
like, specific to one of their "enterprise" customers
brycec: Hm, thought it might be that my BB only did .11b, but specs say b/g (and my wifi is set to ng-only) so should work.
m0unds: when i asked about it, i got banned from their forums
brycec: lol
m0unds: but there was a whole iptables ruleset hardcoded into the build, so it was there even after you factory reset it
totally stupid/lame
mhoran: Dumb dumb dumb.
brycec: Well if I'm understanding require_ht and the "mandatory HT PHY" message, my BB is not willing to go G-only and therefore it's being kicked from the AP. How lame.
m0unds: kick it in the dick
mhoran: That's silly.
brycec: Once I find the dick on this thing...
I have my answer
It was trying to connect to an N-only AP of mine
mhoran: Ah.
brycec: (I have two APs broadcasting the same networks, one was set to N-only, the other to G/N mixed)
m0unds: you monster
brycec: Yeah yeah
m0unds: http://i.imgur.com/zAuxnTw.gif
argh, only ONE HOUR REMAINING.
mnathani: brycec: works now after setting the HTML_MAIL config. Thanks
brycec: np
