mnathani: Anyone try CentOS 7?
m0unds: yep
bunch of stuff i wanted to try wasn't in epel yet, so i gave up
haha
mnathani: I tried installing it on a single core laptop
and FAILED :-(
m0unds: boo
mnathani: installer needs more than one core
so I am curious if it would install on a single core VPS
or if a second core would be required
m0unds: was it an x86 or x64 cpu?
because iirc, it won't install unless your machine is x64 native
mnathani: x64
m0unds: hm
mnathani: yea, I dont think they even released an i386 version
m0unds: yea, says in their docs that x86 is unsupported
but 5 and 6 will still install
mnathani: I could find documentation stating multi core is required

brycec: FWIW up_the_irons I see that there are netinstall ISOs, though they aren't listed on the main downloads page.
http://mirrors.cmich.edu/centos/7.0.1406/isos/x86_64/
-: brycec mutters about a 400MB "netinstall" ISO
mnathani: whats systemd?
brycec: The replacement for sysvinit
like upstart
fwiw mnathani I installed CentOS 7 on a single-core VM without issue
mnathani: brycec: kvm?
brycec: VirtualBox
Perhaps it was some CPU extension? Are you sure the system was x64? That's all I've got.
mnathani: It was a really old AMD64 system
its running Centos 6.5 at the moment
model name : AMD Athlon(tm) 64 Processor 3500+
flags : fpu vme de pse tsc msr pae mce cx8 apic sep mtrr pge mca cmov pat pse36 clflush mmx fxsr sse sse2 syscall nx mmxext lm 3dnowext 3dnow up rep_good
brycec: uname -m just to check?
mnathani: uname -m > x86_64
-: brycec waits for vbox to reopen...
mnathani: do you know of a way to in place upgrade a centos 6.5 to centos 7
brycec: Not the slightest.
Typically there's an upgrade
from the ISO
-mnathani/+mine: -mmxext +constant_tsc -3dnowext -3dnow -up +nopl +pni +monitor +ssse3 +lahf_lm
(mine being an i5-2400)
