jlgaddis has joined #arpnetworks brycec: m0unds: what was that weechat script/setting for the hiding of join/quits (except for active speakers)?
(I remember it had smart in the name... but it's also closing on 2am) ***: grepidemic has quit IRC (Ping timeout: 240 seconds)
grepidemic has joined #arpnetworks mercutio: up_the_irons: is there a problem with it? -: mercutio doesn't get why it'd be almost up :) m0unds: brycec: http://weechat.org/files/doc/stable/weechat_user.en.html#irc_smart_filter_join_part_quit brycec: Thanks m0unds :) mhoran: That's an awesome feature.
I just turned it on myself. up_the_irons: mercutio: just not done with the config
but there *was* a problem. had them make some VLAN ID changes (which took forever it seemed) and in the process they musta put my port somewhere else, or just rolled the fiber for no reason. cuz it was up b4 the change, but after it was down/down. Had grepidemic roll the fiber last night and that fixed it (up/up). m0unds: connection between the inlet and expansion tank on my water heater failed right as i was pulling out of the garage ***: doomviking has quit IRC (Remote host closed the connection) brycec: I bet that was a spectacular sight. m0unds: yeah, i couldn't tell where the water was coming from because it looked like it was coming from everywhere
shut it off, didn't see anything amiss, so i turned it back on and soaked myself trying to find where it was spraying from brycec: heh, been there m0unds: i was slightly annoyed when i got back from home depot only to discover one side of the water inlet from the wall is soldered
it looked like it was threaded when i checked it before going, but it was soldered ***: reardencode has quit IRC (Quit: leaving) mercutio: up_the_irons: damn
up_the_irons: i always expect these thigns to take longer than they should, but they seemed to extend that a bit
it's kind of like a plumber taking a long time to replace a washer in a tap
sure it's not very exciting bringing up new connections, but it's part of their core business up_the_irons: yeah m0unds: anyone seeing some kinda gnarly packet loss via v4?
actually, via v6 too
path via nlayer looks fine, but ntt looks horrible mercutio: my forward path to arp via ntt is fine
13. ge-0-7-0-24.r04.lsanca03.us.ce.gin.ntt.net
hitting that m0unds: hitting this: ae-3.r05.lsanca03.us.bb.gin.ntt.net
i'm seeing ~30-65% pkt loss mercutio: so yeah different way in i imagine m0unds_: having a hard time interacting w/my ssh session on that mercutio: do you hit lsanca19 first? m0unds_: doesn't appear that i do, but like i said, dropping so much traffic i can barely get keystrokes into the vm
haha mercutio: cos it has two ntt hops for me m0unds_: i just have one as far as i can tell, one with rdns anyway mercutio: hmm
well my one says ge and yours says ae m0unds_: nope, two mercutio: suggesting that your link is higher speed m0unds_: i just wasn't getting rdns bc of the pkt loss
i have the same r04 one you do, before ae-3.r05 mercutio: ahh i'm tracing from outside arp into arp m0unds_: i'm going arp out, try that mercutio: to where? m0unds_: try pulse.m0unds.net mercutio: cos for me it's only ntt to arp
nto from arp out m0unds_: outbound path from that host to arp is via nlayer which is really solid mercutio: that looks fine for me
no loss at all
maybe it's your host
do you get packet loss everywhere? m0unds_: nope
just to arp mercutio: no on arp m0unds_: oh mercutio: from arp to everywhere ***: bonraton has quit IRC (Quit: leaving) m0unds_: i was getting loss from arp -> fb arp -> google arp -> other boxes i have mercutio: yeah
so it's most likely your node having issues
or your virtual machine
rather than ntt
cos everything won't go over ntt
like google.com is going over any2ix m0unds_: does your outbound path take you out s7.lax.arpnetworks.com? mercutio: do you get packet loss to arp.meh.net.nz
which is my host on arp
yeh s7 is second hop m0unds_: 20% mercutio: what about loss from your home to arp.meh.net.nz? m0unds_: looks fine too, same path as to mine
via nlayer mercutio: i'm on kvr15, but have no idea how to find someone else on the same kvr as you
yeh so it's node or host
do you get loss to your first hop/ m0unds_: yeah, 8-20%
it's almost 70ms first hop mercutio: do you know what kvr? m0unds_: haha
26 iirc mercutio: wow m0unds_: might be 27 mercutio: i imagine someone ddosnig probably :/
or some other annoying issue like that acf_: maybe check loss to the kvr itself?
kvr10.arpnetworks.com mercutio: how do you nkow he's on kvr1)?
10 m0unds_: yea, trying to do that now mercutio: but that's a good idea m0unds_: i think he was just giving a for instance
haha mercutio: oh right m0unds_: god, this is horrible mercutio: yeah i wondered if i'd missed something
just test from home
don't try weathering that kind of loss m0unds_: home's fine regardless mercutio: you'll go crazy
but testing to kvr10 etc m0unds_: yeah mercutio: you can't test from arp m0unds_: it's fine mercutio: but are you on kvr10? m0unds_: home -> arp is fine
no
i tested to 26 mercutio: which kvr are you on? m0unds_: which is where i am
or 27
i tested both
hah mercutio: ahh m0unds_: a mercutio: maybe you shoudl try rebooting? m0unds_: i don't think it's my vm mercutio: in case your vm in a state
then wyh's it fine to kvr26? m0unds_: i can reach the vm fine from home, no packet loss mercutio: oh m0unds_: it's only on the return path mercutio: try remote desktop?
err vnc
oh it's fine from home m0unds_: yeah ***: SpeedBus has quit IRC (*.net *.split)
NiTeMaRe has quit IRC (*.net *.split)
joepie91_ has quit IRC (*.net *.split)
pjs has quit IRC (*.net *.split) mercutio: it's just screwed from other places? m0unds_: only outlier is work is via ntt
home is via nlayer and is fine
work is screwed up
and other vm i tried is via ntt and is screwed up
but yours was fine
hahaha mercutio: and is work screwed up to other arp hosts? ***: joepie91 has joined #arpnetworks
SpeedBus has joined #arpnetworks mercutio: well ntt definitely do have load balancing of a kind acf_: hmm... really high latencies to kvr27 mercutio: ae is aggregated ethernet acf_: and some loss mercutio: which means that they're using a bundle of more than one ethernet interface acf_: 2. kvr27.arpnetworks.com 5.3% 19 36.2 20.2 0.1 60.6 24.1 m0unds_: i'm fine to the host you linked mercutio - arp.meh.net.nz mercutio: wow i have really high pings to kvr27 too m0unds_: wait
8% now
hahaha mercutio: it's fine tothe hop immediately before
and it's fine to kvr26 m0unds_: yeah, who knows mercutio: acf: are you on kvr27 or were you just trying randon numbers? acf_: mounds_ mentioned kvr27 earlier so I mtr'd it m0unds_: i mentioned 26 and 27 - wasn't sure which one i'm on mercutio: oh
i thought you said 26
damn i erally aren't reading properly
oh i see you said 26 iirc :) m0unds_: i'm on 27 mercutio: i assume you're on kvr27 then m0unds_: yeah mercutio: and kvr27 is having issues
cool. m0unds_: i just confirmed it - had to drop my tunnel to get to the site mercutio: well maybe up_the_irons is around? m0unds_: tunneled to home, but that's trying to reach arp via v6
which is hosed mercutio: and can check it out m0unds_: hahaha mercutio: he was aronud earlier sometime i think
3 and a half hours ago m0unds_: on an utterly unrelated note, i upgraded my kvm box at home to 14.04
my avg cpu load w/the same guests dropped like mad mercutio: have you tried spice? m0unds_: not yet
i remembered you mentioning it mercutio: i tried spice onlocal network
i was blown away m0unds_: i was originally running a win2k8 vm by itself, and saw ~1.1 load avg with other svcs mercutio: way faster than windows remote desktop
impressed me :)
and windows remote desktop is way faste than vnc m0unds_: same svcs, with asterisk in a new vm + the same win2k8 one and my load avg is ~.2 or lower
not sure what changed, but it's much more responsive in the guests mercutio: i do have infiniband though
so low latency / high bandwidth m0unds_: mine's just raid 10 (2x2) old-ish sas disks mercutio: actually that reminds me i have more ram to stick on my server so i can stick kvm on it again
i have zfs on 3 ssds m0unds_: time to head home from work, bbiab mercutio: fwiw amazon are pretty cheap for ssds
and ssd's use way less power than sas hard-disks ***: grepidem1c has joined #arpnetworks mercutio: hmm i thought virtualisation wasn't recommended for voip ***: z310 has quit IRC (Excess Flood)
grepidemic has quit IRC (Write error: Broken pipe)
z310 has joined #arpnetworks m0unds_: havent ever had an issue with kvm or xen based vms on good hosts
ssds would be great, but i already have the sas disks and spares
if i build a new virt box, i'll definitely use ssds though ***: NiTeMaRe has joined #arpnetworks m0unds: finally able to look at my local smokeping graphs
looks like it started at around 20:25 and stopped at around 22:30ish
http://i.imgur.com/d59oHN2.png
ordinarily, very, very stable
haha mercutio: well it's good if you dont' need lots of storage
sas don't give you lots of storage anyway though m0unds: my sas disks are only 250gb
my windows vm has a 60GB disk img and my asterisk box has 30gb
that's it mercutio: i use zfs compression ***: reardencode has joined #arpnetworks
