RandalSchwartz has joined #arpnetworks -: RandalSchwartz begins The Big Build m0unds: dun dun dunnnnnn RandalSchwartz: oooh, actual c compiling is going on jpalmer: up_the_irons: what OS are you running on that t520? I actually like those laptops, and been thinging about getting another one. mercutio: m0unds: most of the older 16:10 laptop screens are TN :(
like my laptop, which is 1680x1050
i kind of wonder if 1920x1080 IPS would be better up_the_irons: jpalmer: gonna pop ubuntu 14.04 on it, get rid of the unity bullshit, put on xmonad with gnome-session in background
perhaps there's a better option, but i haven't redone my desktop in years (currently, it's 10.04 with xmonad + gnome-session in back) mercutio: has anyone here managed a whole day with unity? every time i think i'll "give it a go" i give up in frustration. ***: aboutGod has joined #arpnetworks m0unds: when i used to use linux on the desktop occasionally, i only used unity mercutio: maybe that why you stopped using linux? m0unds: i've used linux on the desktop on and off for 14 years
so no mercutio: ahh m0unds: actually, longer
16 years
haha mercutio: i'm doing windows/linux one on each monitor
and my windows keeps going slow
and chrome keeps crashing m0unds: i experimented with redhat 4 or 5 back in like 96 or 97, but gave up because i couldn't get X to init reliably (surprise surprise)
then i make a point of trying it a couple times per year and i never enjoy using it enough to use it regularly mercutio: heh i went to openbsd desktop in around 2000. m0unds: i've got an arch install on my workstation, and before yesterday, i hadn't booted it in 3 months or so mercutio: they had things ilke you could plug two mice in and share one mouse cursor
then i used linux, and omg it was so conufinsg.
confusing.
heh my windows computer is dual boot arch, i accidentally bumped the reset bios and couldn't figure out how to boot arch for ages.
for some reason, uefi doesn't seem to scan directory for things to load, so if the bios loses its' idea of what OS to boot it seems you have to add it back in somehow
although windows came up.
i don't know why normal motherboards have reset cmos buttons near connectors at the back which is invarabily hard to see and easy to bump when plugging things in RandalSchwartz: yeay - freebsd8.4 is running on my server
now to upgrade my ports ***: aboutGod has left
