I actually like those laptops, and been thinging about getting another one. [15:58] m0unds: most of the older 16:10 laptop screens are TN :( [15:58] like my laptop, which is 1680x1050 [15:59] i kind of wonder if 1920x1080 IPS would be better [16:08] jpalmer: gonna pop ubuntu 14.04 on it, get rid of the unity bullshit, put on xmonad with gnome-session in background [16:09] perhaps there's a better option, but i haven't redone my desktop in years (currently, it's 10.04 with xmonad + gnome-session in back) [16:09] has anyone here managed a whole day with unity? every time i think i'll "give it a go" i give up in frustration. [16:15] *** aboutGod has joined #arpnetworks [16:17] when i used to use linux on the desktop occasionally, i only used unity [16:17] maybe that why you stopped using linux? [16:17] i've used linux on the desktop on and off for 14 years [16:17] so no [16:17] ahh [16:17] actually, longer [16:17] 16 years [16:17] haha [16:18] i'm doing windows/linux one on each monitor [16:18] and my windows keeps going slow [16:18] and chrome keeps crashing [16:18] i experimented with redhat 4 or 5 back in like 96 or 97, but gave up because i couldn't get X to init reliably (surprise surprise) [16:18] then i make a point of trying it a couple times per year and i never enjoy using it enough to use it regularly [16:18] heh i went to openbsd desktop in around 2000. [16:19] i've got an arch install on my workstation, and before yesterday, i hadn't booted it in 3 months or so [16:19] they had things ilke you could plug two mice in and share one mouse cursor [16:19] then i used linux, and omg it was so conufinsg. [16:19] confusing. [16:19] heh my windows computer is dual boot arch, i accidentally bumped the reset bios and couldn't figure out how to boot arch for ages. [16:20] for some reason, uefi doesn't seem to scan directory for things to load, so if the bios loses its' idea of what OS to boot it seems you have to add it back in somehow [16:20] although windows came up. [16:21] i don't know why normal motherboards have reset cmos buttons near connectors at the back which is invarabily hard to see and easy to bump when plugging things in [16:25] yeay - freebsd8.4 is running on my server [16:25] now to upgrade my ports [16:30] *** aboutGod has left [16:52] *** m0unds_ has joined #arpnetworks [17:51] *** RandalSchwartz has quit IRC (Quit: Leaving.)
