which would be simplified as server/workstation vs desktop pc
ECC vs non-ECC most of the time

`some cheap servers take unregistered too
basically all registered is ecc, but all ecc isn't registered.
some servers also take both, but you need to use registered if using more memory slots, and you can't mix and match
