phluxjpalmer: that's weechat ;) [14:15]
pjsphlux are you a weechat dev? I notice you're IRC window is used in the "features" page for the client [14:24]
phluxpjs: No, but I'm working on becoming one. He used it there mainly because he liked it so much. [14:25]
pjsphlux gotcha.. funny, the snippet shows you asking if you can submit a screenshot :) hehehe [14:25]
phluxhaha I never realized that [14:26]
pjs;) [14:26]
phluxhey, #arpnetworks is getting free advertisement there
phlux demands payment
He also uses my screenshot as the github example
https://github.com/weechat/weechat
looks like mine is the only one there
[14:27]
pjsMaybe I'll give weechat a try sometime.. I just use epic5 now [14:29]
....... (idle for 34mn)
jpalmerjpalmer had never heard of weechat. I thought irssi was the end-all be-all irc client these days. [15:03]
staticsafestaticsafe refrains from making a IT Crowd joke [15:03]
up_the_ironswhoa, free advertising on weechat screenshots?!
never thought i'd see the day... ;)
jpalmer: i dumped irssi for weechat several years ago; it is quite a good client. several others in here also moved to weechat.
[15:08]
pjsYea.. epic5 seems to have died out and the script scene on it def died out
I use a BitchX script now becasue its the only one I found to work consistently.. I stopped using BX in like 2001 for a reason :)
[15:09]
jpalmerup_the_irons: I'll have to check it out then. [15:14]
up_the_ironslol
BitchX brings back some memories
[15:15]
mercutioit reminds me of autoaway
and everyone changing their nick to AFK at the end etc
don't see that at all anymore
and now it's normal for people to idle
[15:15]
jpalmerhow many of you have jumped from screen to tmux? [15:20]
mercutiomost :) [15:21]

m0undsm0unds still uses screen [16:10]
up_the_ironsup_the_irons still uses screen [16:11]
mercutiooh wow old school [16:15]
m0undswhat would compel me to switch to tmux [16:18]
mercutiotighter code
cleaner config
active development
[16:18]
m0undsokay, feature-wise? [16:18]
mercutiowell i just use the basic features myself :) [16:18]
m0undsthose are sort of idealogical since screen is stable and i don't really do any configuration of it aside from engaging utf-8 support [16:19]
mercutiofor me terminal emulation seems to work better, and it doesn't bring up an annoying screen when you attach
and default key bindings are simpler
oh and it has a nice status bar
it's pretty easy to try, packages are in debian/ubuntu, or comes by default with openbsd
it supports osme things like vertical splitting easily, but i run everything full window, with just having multiple tabs
it also compiles easily on solaris etc
[16:19]
m0undshaha, solaris
i haven't touched solaris in probably...7 years or so
6
[16:23]
mercutioheh [16:23]
m0undswait, no
shit, 2005. thats 9 years
[16:23]
mercutioheh i'm getting an amiga [16:24]
m0undsm0unds is gud at maffs [16:24]
mercutiosomeone asked how old they were, ..
i thought like 13 years
it's more ilke 20 years
time does fly
[16:24]
m0undshahaha
yeah, absolutely
ok. trying tmux.

[16:25]
mercutioyou like? [16:33]
m0undsmy use for screen was pretty basic, so this is largely the same experience w/the exception of the reattach command and the title at the bottom [16:34]
mercutio^BC opens another tab [16:34]
m0undsyea, i usually only run weechat in screen though
nothing else
[16:34]
mercutio^B0 ^B1 etc changes between them
ahh ok
[16:34]
m0undsyea, i found a decent quick reference for it [16:35]
mercutioi occassionally do things like mtr
cool.
[16:35]
m0undshttp://www.mechanicalkeys.com/files/os/notes/tm.html [16:35]
mercutioit uses less memory too
which hardly needs mentioning now
you can shorten tmux attach to tmux at
[16:35]
m0undsah, ok [16:36]
mercutiothere's also some way to do create or attach
which a friend of mine does, to access remote server, and starts as soon as he logs in
so that he's always using tmux
[16:36]
m0undshm [16:37]
mercutioi don't tend to close stuff myself
i use irc and email on the same host, so it's mostly email that uses my tabs
but it means if i'm using irc i know when i get new email
[16:37]
***acf_ has quit IRC (Ping timeout: 252 seconds) [16:39]
m0undsdo you use pine or something for mail? [16:41]
mercutiomutt
mutt is nothing like pine :/
[16:42]
***hive-mind has quit IRC (Ping timeout: 245 seconds) [16:42]
mercutiobeen using it for about 15 years :)
i tried some of the gui things ages back, and they were really buggy
[16:42]
m0undshaha [16:42]
mercutiothe situation may have changed now, ..
i have considered shifting to imap, instead of tmux/mutt
and imap sort of worked ok with mutt
but the folder selection was worse
but yeah, i tried heaps, balsa, kmail, thunderbird..
[16:43]
m0undsi've never been a fan of thunderbird
i used claws for a little while
[16:45]
mercutioneither was i [16:46]
***hive-mind has joined #arpnetworks [16:46]
mercutioit was hell slow
and buggy
uhh, i keep forgetting computers got much faster :)
[16:46]
m0undsmost of the time now, on a desktop or laptop, i either use webmail or mail.app on mac & windows mail on win8 [16:46]
mercutiomaybe i shoudl try windows mail
the linux stuff always seemed pretty off
what i liked about imap was being able to do full text searching
so you can do full text searches across your whole mail box, and find keys in the mail, and limit to messages with that in them
[16:46]
m0undson win8, it's a pretty straightforward client
not sure how it handles imap since my stuff is exchange
[16:48]
mercutiothere's some java thing you need to run on your imap server to make it go fast
but even normal dovecot supports it
[16:48]
m0undsah [16:48]
mercutiosolr
is the java thingy
[16:49]
m0undsoh, ok
i've heard of it, never used it
[16:49]
mercutiowell it's java..
but it'se definitely faster than dovecot's inbuilt full text search
i dunno, i just like the limit thing in mutt, when using full text search :)
but i went back to local mail anyway
[16:49]
m0undsever checked out mailpile?
it's almost usable
https://www.mailpile.is/
[16:51]
mercutioit seems ok
full text searching for the win
i was thinking it's quite slow, but as i predicted, it's located ages away from me
i've noticed gmail got a lot faster recently
although i frequently need to click on refresh
[16:53]
m0undsit's ~200ms from me [16:55]
mercutioit's 320ms from me [16:55]

brycecAlso just "tmux a" 16:36:17 < mercutio> you can shorten tmux attach to tmux at [18:25]
CaZetmux a -d [18:26]
phluxtmux -2 a -d
I actually do a few fun things with tmux here loally
locally*
i run tmux -2, then split the windows (^b-")
then inside of those windows, I run 'tmux -2 -S/var/tmp/tmux-top.sock -f.tmux2.conf'
then do the same for the bottom (tmux-bottom.sock)
then I have two independent windows inside of a tmux session, both running their own tmux sessions
it's beautiful
all .tmux2.conf does it unbind C-b and binds it to C-a
that way tmux doesn't get confused when I'm trying to issue commands to the individual windows
[18:29]

even in default config it's nice though :)
