twobit is now known as twobithacker CaZe: Wow, google drive is really cheap now. brycec: You mean besides the free offering? :P CaZe: Yeah. pjs: any update on when fbsd 10 will be an option at ordering? up_the_irons: nothing on the radar, most people just do their own installs
i'm knee deep in a couple backlogged things
to make 'em
hosts < kvr27 will be slowly moved from Jaunty to Precise. I almost have the Puppet config and upgrade procedures golden.
that's a BIG jump, so there was a lot to do
Precise is REALLY nice, no more quirks
no more ACPI issues staticsafe: :o up_the_irons: and little things like that RandalSchwartz: will it be a live migrate?
or some downtime involved? brycec: Downtime
(it's been answered before) RandalSchwartz: ok up_the_irons: downtime
i'm doing drills on a lab server for practice, to make the upgrade as quick as possible
scripting as much as possible, etc... RandalSchwartz: eggcellent mercutio: heh sysadmin olympics
who can do the fastest install m0unds: fresh or from a system image? mercutio: heh
you'd need a whole lot of way-over-complicated sitautions
because part of sysadmin job is deciding which way to do things m0unds: yeah
whoever does it fastest and with the fewest godawful kludges wins mercutio: heh m0unds: or you could do the reverse, adding style points for the most kludges mercutio: well you should have awards for diff things
and debugging problems and so forth too
there's lots of debug work with sysadmin normally m0unds: i'd hate to have to listen to commentary mercutio: like why doens't something work
haha
from what i understand up_the_irons is heavily into automation
but only of repetitive things
like some people try and do automation things with whmcs/solusvm etc and it does all the billing and everything m0unds: i'm a big fan of automation mercutio: thing is as soon as it doesn't work, they don't know what they're doing up_the_irons: i'm heavily into automating things that i do a lot, yes m0unds: i have a toolkit i built that will autoconfigure cameras if there's an existing system configuration (i.e. it failed and has been replaced) up_the_irons: some things don't have easy automating solutions, however, and those things still bite me mercutio: up_the_irons: did you ever figure out what that soft lockup bug was about?
that's one of those things that's hard to know what/how/hy
why up_the_irons: mercutio: those can be very elusive. unless something really sticks out, i can't spend too much time on it. it happens pretty rarely, but does happen. mercutio: up_the_irons: ahh so you just rebooted and it was fine?
that's somewhere where having identical hardware is nice
is it OS? is it kernel? is it random?
is much easier when hardware/kernel/os etc is standard up_the_irons: mercutio: well, i *do* have identical hardware / os / kernel, but it doesn't make it easier ;)
mercutio: after a reboot, it was fine yeah mercutio: up_the_irons: heh
so it's happened on other node sbefore?
but with most having long uptimes it's very uncommon up_the_irons: it has happened to others yeah mercutio: fwiw i've hit that in a virtual machine before
not on arp but in general
and yeah rebooting fixed it up_the_irons: if the uptime is really high, i just say i'm thankful for that and move on ;) mercutio: from what i understand it's one of the symptoms of a lot of different problems
hence it intself doesn't really tell you anything m0unds: yea mercutio: mm, is there going to be a beta for this precise thing?
or is it just the same as the old beta was
as far as qemu/kvm goes up_the_irons: there won't really be a beta; i have a spare box that i'm doing a lot of testing on mercutio: ahh ok but its' the same? up_the_irons: exactly the same
it's a kvr spare ***: robonerd- has joined #arpnetworks
