(some video type thing about the debian sysvinit/systemd/upstart/openrc debate) ***: r0ni has joined #arpnetworks mercutio: has arp got a problem
i can't trace past ntt
not even hitting their core router
oh i thinko ntt issue
it's fallen over to mzima now
oh coresite down too? brycec: mercutio: hm, yeah trying to traceroute to 8.8.8.8 from is failing m0unds_: yep mercutio: yeh i'm bouncing in
it /was/ working back to me temp
dropbear has this cool tcp port bouncing thing btw meingtsla: i think any2 is doing emergency maintenance of some sort mercutio: you can do dbclient user@host,user@host brycec: mercutio: but I can traceroute to another VPS in another DC in LA mercutio: and it'll bounce through the first host to the second
with tcp port forward so still secure
and using your key for both hosts brycec: (And who is "trit.net"? that's a new hit) mercutio: trit.net isn't new
it's only showing up because ntt and coresite seem down?
which suggests the new router beign down?
dunno ***: acf_ has quit IRC (Read error: Operation timed out) mercutio: up_the_irons should fill us in

oh so any2ix was already down? up_the_irons: migrating from /24 -> /23 but in a different range ***: r0ni has left "Textual IRC Client: www.textualapp.com" mercutio: that's weird
but i suppose more people on it now ***: crazed has joined #arpnetworks mercutio: i saw problems with ntt yesterday btw
like 8% packet loss or something crazed: bgp flap? mercutio: so i dunno if ntt is having issues in general or what m0unds_: ntt's been kinda crappy for a bit (congested coming off centurylink) mercutio: this was starting ntt to ntt i think
i mean i think it was ntt issue rather than interlink issue
i didn't really care that much at the time
i just thought "that's strange" kevr: can i talk to someone here about changing my cust.arpnetworks.com subdomain? brycec: Those sorts of things are best addressed to support@arpnetworks.com kevr: alright. thanks up_the_irons: kevr: just change it in your server
those are auto-gen'd, if you don't like it, we can just delete it kevr: up_the_irons: it seems when my account was setup, they used the name on the billing info for it, but i'd like to use another name for the account on arpnetworks
up_the_irons: also, i wanted to remove a few things like the vnc and VM management up_the_irons: kevr: those cannot be rmoved kevr: ah k i'll just deal with it in iptables then, no problem up_the_irons: kevr: but we can remove the cust.arpnetworks.com subdomain if you're not comfortable with it
it only exists in our DNS brycec: kevr: VNC access connects to the host, not your VPS. Your iptables cannot manage VNC access. kevr: up_the_irons: sure, the only thing is every service requiring the username.cust.arpnetworks.com wants a username thats different than what i'd prefer, which would be my name instead of the name on the billing address
ah i see.
up_the_irons: should i just direct this all to support@ instead of discussing it here? :P up_the_irons: kevr: sure :) kevr: alright. thanks for the info. mercutio: oh it down again brycec: So it is. mercutio: maybe ntt shouldn't be brought back up for a bit
weird it's going via rpint/trit
oh i see
:)
err spring
i see the trit now heh
now it ntt/nlayer/mzmia up_the_irons: hmmm... mercutio: and down again up_the_irons: wth mercutio: i thjnk ntt should be forced down :)
i dunno why it fine ntt->nlayer->mzima
it also seems strange that ntt aren't dampening it up_the_irons: this is annoying.. brycec: I agree.. mercutio: that why i thought prob safer to just shut ntt down temp
and log a fault kevr: also, what's up with the arpnetworks user, is that safe for me to remove? mercutio: it's up again on ntt heh brycec: kevr: yes. See the FAQ article about it. mercutio: keyr: it's in hte knowledge base kevr: gotcha brycec: http://support.arpnetworks.com/kb/vps/can-i-delete-the-arpnetworks-user-on-my-vps ***: acf_ has quit IRC (Read error: Connection reset by peer) up_the_irons: i'm working with our Any2 VLAN too, i'm sure this is not all NTT's fault. When I bring up that VLAN on s7.lax, i get problems, but it takes a while, wtf... mercutio: do they have mac on both? brycec: (mmm, vlan all the things) ***: acf_ has joined #arpnetworks up_the_irons: wonder if I should nuke Any2 on s1.lax
hmm.. can't with IPv6
bah, damn migrations... ***: crazed has quit IRC (Quit: leaving) up_the_irons: btw guys, Level 3 circuit is coming in a few weeks; it's official now, i inked all the paperwork this week brycec: Yay, should be pretty solid transit (right?) up_the_irons: therefore crappy nLayer packet loss should be a thing of the past
brycec: Level 3 is like the #1 network in the world; i sure hope it is solid :)
i've received positive recommendations from others brycec: I've heard good things in general, but I don't run in those circles, so what do I know.
My only personal dealing with L3 was with SIP termination (and origination, I think) up_the_irons: I like how Level 3 uses IRR correctly. No more dealing with manually updating prefix lists. brycec: Awesome. It's as if they know what they're doing or something. up_the_irons: haha right mercutio: up_the_irons: oh cool level3 up_the_irons: :) mercutio: i don't really like level3 being so big and all
but also from that pov, it's safer being on them
and they suck way less than cogent brycec: ...that's not saying much. mercutio: they're not that bad
they cost more than other providers normally
but having few huge companies tends to be less optimal
than more smaller companies brycec: My point is that Cogent is generally regarded as crap. Saying "less bad" than crap isn't much of a statement. easymac: Cogent is really good at dropping packets though, you gotta give them that. ***: mike-bur1 has joined #arpnetworks
