Ha ha ha What's the IP of this machine? Just wondering. lol Can tell you in PM Mr. mike-burns 1583 days in a fri 13 is not good i had a control computer on a closed surveillance system with 9 years of uptime - we shut it down permanently in march of 2013 Due to? gutted the whole system, replaced it with new gear analog w/digital recording -> network based ip video system But few years ago i still see somebody use analog, instead of IP type cam. Not sure why. Performance issues? Cost An 8 cam analog system with 500GB drive can be found for $200 or so. 4 cheap IP cameras alone cost $200 Cabling cost? Or the cam itself? hardware Ah ok. Fair enough. But its almost impossible to get very 'LIVE' video on IP cam right? Due to latency? it's usually 30ms or less and a lot of hybrid video systems run analog video into an encoder, which introduces 120-250ms at the low end Good network gear and setup = just as live. well, not the network so much as the encoder in the camera also, the reason for casinos (which is the env i work with) sticking to analog is mostly because of cost, and the cost is significantly different vs gas station quality costco dvrs and cameras Ah quite, good point. heh In my price range for cameras, the analog stuff still has better clarity and quality. our analog equipment was all bosch security stuff - the cameras we removed are still in use by venetian properties those were ~$680 for a fixed 15-50mm, $720 for a 2-8mm and $1300 for a PTZ 4CIF resolution, modular design Yes imho nothing can beat Bosch for now. Interesting. (My budget is <$100) we brycec: Get the webcam! :P we use all HD stuff now Yeah, they're pretty terrible compared to ^^ m0unds: How long your cam can do the focus things? I still remember few years ago, when the government somewhere in middle east , requested from us "We want your cctv can focus and zoom for 3KM to be place at the airport" We all see each others after he said that! I guess only military spec cam able to do that? 3 KM Roughly 1.84 miles oh, there are LRS cameras that can do that sort of stuff our longest throw PTZs are ~16x zoom LRS = long range surveillance used at border crossings and whatnot How long? umm, up to 15KM extreme long distance LRS cameras made by one of the vendors we use LRS5000 is the one rated for 15KM designed to identify man-sized targets at up to 5KM Holy cow, that's extreme. yeah, cool stuff - wish we had any use for that stuff here I suppose you could contract for the businesses around you :p hahaha, noncompete can't do anything surveillance related unfortunately whoa noncompete? That makes no sense to me... Who are you competing with? pueblo interests - tribal government entity worries that i'd go into business for myself and leave or something, as if signing that contract would keep me from leaving :P Oh I see. lol yeah they're paranoid about that stuff i could probably jump through hoops w/the governor and stuff to get it approved but it's really not worth the time it'd take to do it :) http://www.synecticsuk.com/images/pdfs/data-sheets/2013/synectics_coex_1000.pdf marine rated PTZ anisfarhana has me beat $ uptime 13:40:23 up 1417 days, 11:33, 2 users, load average: 0.71, 0.82, 0.80 up_the_irons: Im still #1 as for now :D , unless you login and reboot it :P haha https://www.google.ca/search?q=1417+days+in+years&aq=f&oq=1417+days+in+years&aqs=chrome.0.57j0.2938j0&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8 @wa 1417 days 1417 days;1.224×10^8 seconds;2.04×10^6 minutes;34008 hours;202.4 weeks;46.59 months;~~ 0.74 × half-life of cobalt-60 ( 1.6635×10^8 s );~~ 1.5 × half-life of sodium-22 ( 8.2108×10^7 s );1417 days from now->Monday, October 30, 2017, 1417 days before now->Tuesday, January 26, 2010;time 3.87962 years lol took BryceBot a while mnathani: the http request took awhile cuz WA is slow m0unds: Wish i can have that ptz (Wolfram Alpha) haha, yeah, me too - put it on the roof of my house I thought Washington lol @date 1417 days 3 years, 45 weeks, 6 days, 23 hours, 0 seconds to go. Lucky them! i have 30.56GB this month err, nov haha October + Nov = 97MB only Funny! Lets host some movies! haha Can use this facts to convince the support in order to get the bonus ram. i have also been shocked by how little traffic i've used Or Cacti is broken? no, i know i'm just a very light user of my vps as far as bandwidth goes Yes. I use this vps for my research , trial and error only. If i screw it , format it again! i was using mine for asterisk earlier this year and that used very little transfer have a DID set up so i don't have to give coworkers my personal cell # Our VDS services just recently went on sale. You can take advantage of this new pricing by issuing a change order that doesn't actually change the configuration and you will be locked in at the new pricing. NFOservers Their support damn fast too. Less than a minute they replied me. heh m0unds: What is your usage on vps? Sorry if you don't understand me. English is not my native language. umm, 29.46GB for the last 30 days your english is fine :) i'm not a heavy user - i'm mostly hosting personal projects and doing some app deployment stuff (dev + push) for friends and things Don't tell me you are one of the piratebay's admin hahaha, you got me i bar the use of p2p stuff on networks and systems i manage Ohh I envy you then. *hats off* i'm an unpopular guy :) 21.66GB for my last month according to Cacti we're such abusers of pakkits And 25GB according to vnstat up_the_irons: Is the use of ARPs backup service for backing up non ARP hosts frowned upon? mnathani: Last I asked, it wasn't one way or the other. It's left exposed over ipv4 for now, at least until it's abused too mcuh. I'm using it with no problem. I've even abused it with sshfs for some temporary extra storage. I NEED 81.23TB OF TRANSFER A MONTH FOR $3 81230GB @ 10GB/$1, so that's $8123 the lack of people with that attitude in this channel is refreshing (assuming backup space) hahaha i've got...5.640gbit/sec coming in to my headend right now Wish my ping to arpnetwork less than 100ms anisfarhana: where are you located? SEA seattle? No! South East Asia sealand? If Seattle my english would be very good then lol SEA = iata code for seatac airport in seattle that's why i thought SEA meant seattle :) lol Sealand Yeah, SEA is a well known international airport. I thought that's what you meant, but I know you're in Asia so I was confused. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Principality_of_Sealand Principality of Sealand :: The Principality of Sealand is a recognized micronation (or a house on a naval base), located on HM Fort Roughs, a former Second World War Maunsell Sea Fort in the North Sea 13 kilometres (7 nmi) off the coast of Suffolk, England, United Kingdom. Since 1967 the facility has been occupied by family and associates of Paddy Roy Bates, who claim that it is an independent sovereign state. Bates seized it from a group of pi yeah I remember hearing about Sealand when TPB was considering moving. (TPB The Pirate Bay, not Trailer Park Boys) hahahah thanks for clarifying Average ping to my vps = around 200 - 250 ms wow 105ms over an HE tunnel, 44ms over the straight IPv4 from TWC 32ms for me 32ms is really good! yeah, my provider favors LAX for westbound traffic m0unds: Where are you? albuquerque, nm I get 10-15ms if i ping my office now hehe. .2ms if I ping my office :p haha .1ms if I ping the machine behind me deejavu! I think we had this conversation before. I love that the first packet is always takes a bit longer, on account of the ARP resolution my workstation is sitting on top of $2000 worth of VCRs That sounds... sad. it's all they're good for anymore hahaha before we renovated this office, my monitors sat on top of $2000 worth of vcrs too I've got a really nice VCR at home, and a broadcast-grade Betamax deck ($400 and $2500 respectively, when new) these are sanyo surveillance vcrs, used to be $500ea when new hahaha How long ago were they used? um, before i started working here - we only had the few remaining ones because we refused to give our security dispatch people access to digital recording haha so these were probably taken out of service 4-6 yrs ago they just had vcrs that recorded their display monitors for reviews or whatever and we did the "actual" recording Yeah I figured the VCRs doing actual recording were long, looong gone yeah, probably 8 years in our case thereabouts Not as long ago as i'd expect. i think the first phase of digital was installed in 2003, final phase was 2006 We are just using the server at office instead of PVR. PVR = cost then we ran that system up til 2011, began phasing in IP video, ran both systems in tandem for about 6 months, then cut over to ip video fully, then demo'd all old stuff final demo completed in march or so - 30 racks of old dvrs Very cool m0unds 30 racks for 896 cameras, we're now recording ~1300 streams in 4 racks, with one dedicated to our network core :) Any sort of redundancy in case of network failure (etc)? yep, dual 6509 chassis', dual sup modules each Nice, an improvement over the analog 4 network paths from each hub, two from minor hubs yeah I assume power was always redundant actually no, old stuff, no redundant power just redundant recording, redundant matrix cpus nothing else new stuff, redundant nics, redundant recording, redundant network paths, redundant power heh recording redundancy, but nothing on transport or the video hardware itself. Good to have known :p yeah, all old gear had a single point of failure that still exists here - single network interface to the camera the matrix could switch analog video around failed cards and such though, which is kinda cool in a retro way And single power interface to the camera, I imagine. yeah, old stuff was 18awg 24VAC new is all PoE but we have redundant coverage now :) oh nice, so easily centralised power yeah, which is sooooo nice much better than dragging 300ft of rg6 and power cable hahaha and since we have a presence in all hubs rather than just major ones, that helps too the VMS (video mgmt system) has some cool tricks to work around failed cameras - we can assign values to how critical a camera is, and set presets for adjacent PTZs to point to the area where those critical cameras are pointed if a crit cam dies so if we had something watching a transactional counter and it died, a ptz would automatically flip over to cover it til camera comes back up or we r&r it if it actually failed That's handy. Not a perfect replacement obviously, since it won't be same angle and view But definitely handy to have *some* coverage. also do other stuff like aggregating all point of sale transactions, with data associated with overhead cameras and things. you can watch a transaction occur in review and see the receipt tape see the user, what they keyed in, etc just like the pos server would see it dataveillance ftw You work for casino right? yeah gaming commission Gaming comission? You taking care cctv for gaming commision or what? gaming commission regulates gaming for the casino as regulators, we handle the surveillance system separate from casino ops Never been to casino before hehe. Not familiar with it. Oh really? I had no idea... always assumed it was the casino's. Does the casino have their own cctv too then? we operate that sorry, had to step out - gaming commission regulates gaming within this tribal casino surveillance dept is part of the gaming commision, and we provide the surveillance system that our operators use to regulate transactions and provide "a fair and equitable gaming environment" in vegas, casinos own their surveillance depts, and they don't typically have large budgets. lots of casinos in lv are still on vhs or old digital recording. You must know which machine is good for more winning! hahaha they have programmable hit probability that's set from the factory then validated by two third party auditors prior to deployment i don't see eproms in my work, so i have no idea :) Yeahhh right! :P haha I love this humble bundle games.. Very cheap! yeah, there's some good stuff there i've been backing off of pc gaming a bit - most of my pc stuff has just been spent with planetside 2 ... Hate the local bank. i plan on playing more planetside 2 once exams are done They blocked me already. staticsafe: which server are you on? Have to call them for verification sigh booooo m0unds: Waterson ah i'm on connery had an nc toon on mattherson but that server's a giant mess not uncommon to see 50% TR pop during alerts so dumb heh VS here connery, depending on the time of day, it ends up being 40% VS or 40% NC during alerts i started playing more after the first optimization patch had an account since the beta though it made such a difference same, i kept playing just not as much because perf was so bad only one of my friends play it :( boooo most of mine left to play league of legends or other stuff couple of people i played with on and off after friends left annoyed me so i just kinda go solo for the most part Not active on others game atm. Being addicted to BF4 one dude wouldn't ever stfu, just babbling constantly about his kdr, and the other guy would get pissed if everyone wasn't a medic so he could get revived and not screw up his kdr i don't even know what my KDR is i just don't care yeah, same no care ever i kill stuff, i blow stuff up, i crash galaxies and it's fun something carried over from TF2 I guess yea i've been practicing flying still can't dogfight with the scythe but I can fly all of them just fine Heh 6 collection games from humblebundle now flying can be tough yea it took me a bit to get the hang of it. mosquito is a ton of fun to fly because it's so fast yea i want to switch factions just to play with the mosquito >_> maybe ill make a new character one of my fav things to do is to drop into a canyon, stop, turn and hover and as the pursuing a/c flies over, light it up from the bottom with my rotary and watch it pop playing base defense with phalanx turrets vs. a horde of mosquitoes is so much fun my TR on connery is m00nds (because canadians kept saying moonds instead of mounds) yeah it is i play engineer, MAXes love me repair all the things max is my fav class i think i rerolled my vs char (it was my launch char) because i spread myself way too thin w/certs but i've played max so much, it's my dominant class i think also dropping ammo during base rushes == XP yeah yeah, dominant class for my vs char is max, hahahah https://players.planetside2.com/#!/5428109895937989489/classes VS maxes look badass yeah they do https://players.planetside2.com/#!/5428013610399066945/classes vs weapons sound awesome too after the sound update pass nice its fun when people actually organize for an attack yeah TR do a lot of hilarious gal drops on connery i love tycho's "past is prologue" tycho <3 saw him/them in boulder last month nice live show is really neat w/the visual element one of the best sounding shows i've ever been to, at the fox theatre in boulder their house audio is incredible anyone using their entire allocated /48 IPv6 space? (I believe toddf also has and uses his /48) "For those customers, we will route the entire /48 block over a link-local address (fe80::/64). This is standard practice (RFC 3177, RFC 5375)." wow that's exactly what I described :p And now I have 1.2*10^24 and I have no idea what to do with them then again I had no idea what to do with the 1.8*10^19 I started out with I *hate* how 'wasteful' ipv6 is RFC3177 can die in a fire Also RFC6177, now that I look it up brycec: thanks for clarifying it for me brycec: if I need to designate a VPS as router, how does that work when I have 2 VPS mnathani: Pick 1 :p The other would essentially just need its router address changed to point at the first. Or, that's what I imagine it would be. (read: I'm not speaking from experience) brycec: have you gone so far as to use ARP as a tunnel v6 in v4? kinda like ipv6.he.net Not yet, but that's my plan. Because HE isn't as reliable as ARP. I'm told it's easy. By toddf. ARP v4 is more reliable than v6 though
