It looks weird, but I haven't noticed a difference in feel.
I switched between a T61, T420s, and X1 regularly, and I also have the external Thinkpad USB keyboard. They all feel the same to me.
Same loudness, same reaction feel.

my buddy got a new model (w-series) and the keyboard felt a lot different than the 06-era one i use at work
old thinkpad had some tactility to it, new one feels like a cheap scissor action kb from any regular laptop
that isn't to say they're bad, just not the same as they were. we ended up getting an hp elitebook in lieu of another thinkpad for an extra tech notebook, that's part of why
yeah I think my next laptop isn't gonna be a thinkpad :(

the elitebook we got is pretty nice - i7 quad core, 8gb ram, quadro gpu
I really liked my X1 Carbon.
