[10:01]
staticsafefrom where [10:01]
xiphiaseverywhere [10:02]
staticsafegive me an example
so I can test
[10:02]
xiphiasstaticsafe: port updates
staticsafe: every single thing downloads shit slow
staticsafe: also i forgot you had ARP networks
[10:02]
staticsafexiphias: ports updates are fine here [10:03]
xiphiasfor me it peaked at like
60 kbps
[10:03]
***robonerd has quit IRC (Quit: zzz) [10:04]
xiphiasstaticsafe: doesn't matter what i download though
staticsafe: everything is shit slow download speeds
[10:04]
staticsafexiphias: hm
xiphias: can confirm
[10:07]
xiphiasright now i'm doing portupgrade -a so that'll take a long time before i can do anything [10:07]

RandalSchwartzHmm. Didn't google maps have some sort of user-contributed pile of possible overlays [12:15]
.... (idle for 16mn)
m0unds_yay, snow
i've seen third party aggregation of kml overlays
i've never seen google curate one
[12:31]

brycec has quit IRC (Ping timeout: 264 seconds)
[12:35]
RandalSchwartzit was available back in 2007
you could "publish" google map data
apparently, that's now gone
[12:40]
***brycec has joined #arpnetworks [12:40]
m0unds_not surprising [12:45]
RandalSchwartzwhy not surprising? [12:48]
m0unds_probably didn't help monetize gmaps, or was a work sink [12:50]
***xiphffff has joined #arpnetworks [12:57]
xiphffffhi
my VPS i don't think is booting
[13:01]
RandalSchwartzhave you tried the VNC console to see? [13:01]
xiphffffproblem
"no route to host"
[13:01]
RandalSchwartzhave you done a hard shutdown first, before rebooting?
no route to *which* host?
[13:01]
xiphffffkvr29.arpnetworks.com [13:01]
RandalSchwartzworks here
you have a crappy internet, apparently
[13:02]
xiphffffworked for me a few minutes ago
now it's just refusing
[13:02]
RandalSchwartzwhere are you in the world?
how far does a traceroute get?
[13:02]
xiphffffi use my VPS on a daily basis, by the way.
and i live in pennsylvania
[13:03]
m0unds_traceroute would be handy [13:03]
RandalSchwartzpennsylvania is known to have problems. :) :) [13:03]
xiphffffjust saying
i've *never* had a problem until now
and i've had this VPS for months
[13:04]
staticsafemtr/traceroute pls [13:04]
xiphffffwaiting on it
that's probably bad news #1
hm
there's another possibility
my bank killed the debit card i use for arpnetworks, never got it changed and it went past due date, it was alive until i rebooted
(and yes, i did change my details)
i figured i could pay it manually
[13:04]
staticsafexiphffff: i suggest e-mailing support@ [13:07]

xiphffffquestion
i reinstalled freebsd on my own
problem is networking doesn't work
and i don't know why that would be, everything seems to be correct
[17:50]
toddflook at the ips listed in your portal details
ensure your gateway and such are set properly
[17:52]
xiphffffyes, that's what i did [17:52]
toddfdo you see the nic?
can you ping the gateway?
[17:52]
xiphffffyeah, it's active
sec
[17:52]
toddfwhat if you do 'ping6 ff02::1%em0' or s/em0/vio0/ or whatever [17:53]
staticsafenetstat -r and ifconfig in paste as well [17:53]
xiphffffpinging the gateway works [17:53]
toddfroute -n get default [17:53]
xiphffffi'm doing this all through VNC because of course i can't get into sshd [17:54]
toddfI love doing that kindof thing via serial console
details are on your portal as well, you just have to upload a public key
[17:54]
xiphffffoh.
oh dear
mkay
sec
[17:55]
toddfbut that won't help if you don't have serial consle setup in your os
and it won't change the fact that you obviously have some networking snafoo
hows the 'route -n get default' look ?
[17:55]
xiphffffi don't have serial console setup yet [17:56]
toddfnomatter, I'm just sayin for future exploration purposes [17:57]
xiphffffroute to: default, destination: default, mask: default, gateway: 208.79.91.217, fib: 0, interface: em0, flags: <UP,GATEWAY,DONE,STATIC>, recvpipe/sendpipe/ssthresh/rtt,msec are all 0, mtu is 1500, weight is 1, expire is 0 [17:57]
toddfits just easy to cut and paste from a ssh term vs a vnc window, but in any event, you should have the ability to checkout your default route
if you can ping the gateway I'm thinking its not set
[17:58]
xiphffffi get it
heh
here, i will show you my uh
rc.conf
[17:58]
toddfgrumph, traceroute -n 8.8.8.8 ?
I'm not a freebsd guru by any stretch so it may be of lesser value, gotta jet for real work(tm), best of luck
[17:58]
xiphffffworked
nonetheless it is appreciated
[17:59]
staticsafexiphffff: is sshd started? [17:59]
xiphffffstaticsafe: yes
staticsafe: i can't ping anything like google for example
ntpd is giving errors across the board
[17:59]
staticsafexiphffff: cat /etc/resolv.conf [18:00]
xiphffffempty
...yeah, i probably need to setup nameservers.
[18:00]
staticsafethere is your problem [18:00]
xiphffffforgive me, i don't do sysadmin ever
eververververververv
this is an exercise
[18:00]
staticsafecommon mistake
