to those who don't have a dedicated server, this is what you're missing: http://www.flickr.com/photos/51184165@N00/10859162004/in/set-72157631847234896/ Flickr photo: "20131007-IMG_8891_2_3" by garrydolley whoa, ty BryceBot lol :) Now if only you had a more descriptive title :p Are those 2 or 3U? up_the_irons: That's pretty. up_the_irons: Warms my black infrastructure nerd heart it does. sng: LOL brycec: flickr titles are hidden on the way bottom, barely noticeable now brycec: 3U server porn! i have a bunch more photos; these were professionally done for a whole new website design and i'll have a lot left over; finally i can use datacenterporn.net for something ;) hahaha Awww .com was already taken What, Tucows is still around up_the_irons ??? brycec: yep Also "finally" you've only had the domain a month. Heh the .com is also registered through tucows And apparently neither have any content, in spite of the .com existing since 2008. I am SO disappoint. my first domain was via a Tucows reseller My first domain was bought when Tucows was still a thing :p (in 1999) Creation Date: 06-may-2010 Creation Date: 1999-08-31 01:38:00Z MediaTemple I believe, which now owned by GoDaddy 049000817393 d'oh placed cup too close to the barcode scanner brycec: 24oz coke, according to Google ;) my first domain was with the original internic .. lol Yeah probably right, but it's just a cup, not a bottle. Mine was NetSol I think they were essentially the only game in town then I liked that netsol had the ability to take updates via pgp signed messages in email. it sucked when they went to their new pretty web ui. Yeah that was neat, but over my head at the time. Plus once setup, I wasn't making changes to my registration... now there are so many options for registrars i remember when updates were accepted even without pgp signed messages heh i don't remember who my original registrar was. transferred to gandi and have just stayed w/them Oooh two more Flickr uploads by up_the_irons lol I have an RSS reader pointed at your flickr account, it's true... hah nice up_the_irons: My $.02. Photos as nice as these are likely to be regarded as "just some stock photography crap" so it would be cool if you could somehow work that these really are the ARP equipment into the new site. The server photos have ARP logos in them, but not the network gear. brycec: yeah i was thinking the exact same thing i'll have to find some way to communicate that Glad I'm not the only one that considers these things :) At the very least, the title/hover text :) Feature Request: Live webcam view of the cage :) hahaha that would be very boring 99% of the time Perhaps, but there's still some good gimmick value. Especially if you can see lights flashing (just enough to see that there are lights and they do flash) Or perhaps I'm just easily entertained by webcams. haha haha i want to wire my house up for surveillance stuff, but i do that at work so it's kinda like mechanics letting other people work on their car because they work on cars all day heh My lady wasn't too fond of the idea of cameras inside... And I'm really not fond of putting holes in the apartment walls and/or running the wire. yeah, i won't do cameras inside if i turn a closet into a telecom closet or add a gun safe somewhere, i'll do cameras - only area i'd want one is in the garage atm then exterior Yeah garage is probably wise. I have a storage closet outside that I've stuffed a computer with a bunch of capture cards in, and have three cameras zip-tied to the railing :) And that thing will probably never come close to overheating :p hahaha my biggest annoyance is that most affordable ip video cameras lack wide focal length lenses, and i don't want analog stuff if i can avoid it I happen to have a bunch of this stuff laying around already :) (In fact, I haven't bought a single thing for this project) And the analog cams are a step up from USB webcams. And the IP cams I have at work suffer the same issue as the USB webcam: In the dark, the image gets grainy as hell and looks terrible. ah, nice i work in a casino env, and all our cameras in dark areas have ir emitters and such but there aren't many dark areas really Yeah, I'd love more IR cameras... Just have one at the moment, and it doesn't do too great given the distance/range. brycec: web cams all seem to be grainy to me i dunno if there are good ones but all the ones i see, are WAY lower than camera quality and often have terrible colours too like obviously terrible you don't even need to compare to another camera hmm, i wonder if there are DLSR webcams lol haha well apparently some people have used normal dlsr cameras in video mode as a web cam that's kind of silly how so? With a bit of gphoto2-foo, you can command a nice camera to take a photo and then download that to the computer. Not exactly streaming video. i dunno, because there are cameras designed for that purpose, rather than repurposing something to do it? but are they good? you'd be better off commanding a camera to take a still at some interval or something or if you wanted to bolt on a camera to a networked device, you could get an h264 encoder with analog inputs and just grab the stream and display it Can't beat analog black :) There are supposedly good webcams, nice 1080p ones and such... But I've never messed with one. The 720p ones I have in a couple of laptops seem okay, but I've never tried them in low light which is where webcams fall down the most. tiny sensors Quite And I guess my IP cameras suffer from using the same shitty webcam sensors yea, probably small sensors the ones in cameras i use at work are 1/3-1/2" so I read something today about the possibility of an afterlife based on some quantum mechanics theory about multiple universes (multiverse) The theory stated at one point "any possibility that could exist does exist" :o so in one of those universes, wouldn't there be a universe where the multiverse doesn't exist?! hm good point isn't that a paradox or sorts? of* yeah I think so anyone know of a relatively inexpensive wildcard ssl certificate? mnathani: https://ipxcore.com/ssl/ staticsafe: thanks np Not too shabby I'm too cheap... Lots of startcom certs :) huh, nice price I guess for that matter I should mention StartSSL Verified at $60/ea and valid for 2 or 3 years http://www.startssl.com/?app=39 what should be my default route address? nvm I found it in my services page.
